Chapter 2 Alicia's Schemes
- Jasmine
- I clenched my fists, my claws digging into my palms, drawing blood. I bit my bottom lip as I stopped myself from going after Alicia and smacking her across the face.
- A trophy wife?
- Is that what I signed up for?
- Oh hell no...
- Refusing to sit still, I went after Alicia, however, I had barely touched her when she screamed and doubled over. She clutched her stomach that was now bleeding heavily from the three large gashes on her skin.
- My eyes widened in horror. Did she just hurt herself to frame me?
- She looked up at me with tears in her eyes, looking so pitiful and weak, any man could fall at her feet.
- "Jas, I know you're upset about what happened between me and Leo. I didn't want to, I swear... I just felt sorry for him, you starved him for so long. The postion is yours, you don't have to try and kill me," Aliia remarked, her words confusing the hell out of me.
- I scoffed and replied, "I don't know why you're acting for empty air but that shit won't work on me. I've watched too many movies-"
- A low growl resonated around us and I froze. I turned to find Leo glaring at me with so much hatred. He came forward and grabbed my neck before slamming me on the wall.
- "Are you going to kill every she-wolf I fuck? I've fucked so many since we got engaged, are you going to look for them and kill them too?" He hissed, his cold eyes sending sharp shards of ice to my heart.
- I shook my head, trying to breath. "I... I didn't-"
- "You're not my Luna yet. But even if you were, it would be better if you stick to your role as this pack's Luna. I'm a man and I'm bound to have other women. Keep your hands off of them," he warned before roughly letting go of me.
- I coughed violently, trying to get in as much air as possible.
- "Leo, don't blame Jasmine. She just loves you so much," Alicia said in a sickening sweet voice.
- "If she loves me then she will let me have my fun," Leo replied.
- I watched as he leaned down and scooped Alicia into his arms before saying, "Let me take you to my room. I'm sure you will recover as soon as I use my saliva on these wounds."
- Alpha saliva was known to make the healing process faster. However, licking wounds was an intimate act that an Alpha could only do to his chosen mate.
- Didn't Leo care about this at all?
- I scoffed to myself.
- Of course, he didn't.
- Alicia looked over Leo's shoulder and smirked.
- Her sudden change hurt me a lot... weren't we talking and laughing just yesterday?
- My eyes stung with tears as I watched them enter Leo's room before he closed it with a bang.
- How was I so blind to think Leo had finally fallen for me? Why did I agree to be his chosen mate, only for him to break my heart into a million pieces?
- I fell deeply in love with him even though he wasn’t my fated mate… but when last did the werewolf species get blessed with fated mates?
- It was rare… unheard of, even.
- For centuries, it seems the goddess had forgotten about her creation. She used to bless every werewolf with the perfect mate… a soul mate, the other half of one’s soul.
- However, as years went by and werewolves evolved, sighting a mate was unheard of. In fact, we don’t even know if the very notion is true.
- Perhaps, like those Beauty and the Beast and Cinderella stories, the ideal mate story was also just a myth… a version of a fairytale for werewolves.
- There was a time I dreamed of Leo being my fated mate. That maybe, I could be the first of our kind to find her mate… Oh, what a fool I was.
- I was lying to myself.
- Mates? That shit doesn’t exist. So does love…
- If Leo loved me, he wouldn't sleep with my best friend. If he loved me, he wouldn't act like it didn't matter if I caught him or not and he wouldn't close the door in my face without so much as an apology for his filthy actions.
- With a broken heart, I got to my feet and walked down the hallway of the third floor of the packhouse. This floor was reserved for the young leaders- the next Alpha, Beta and Gamma.
- We were a wealthy pack as can be seen from the shiny expensive marble floors and the luxurious paint on the walls. I sighed as I passed the Beta's door, debating whether I should knock or not.
- Since I was a female, even though I’m the firstborn, it’s my brother, Theo, who would take over as the Moonlight Pack’s Beta.
- What a fucked up world it was for women.
- These rules are so sexist! Why wouldn’t I be a Beta? Because I didn’t sport a dick and balls in between my legs?
- They chose to raise me to be the perfect Luna... a rank I didn't want if I wasn't getting mated for love.
- My heart clenched and I decided to see my brother later. I wouldn't want him to see me like this. I soon reached the stairs that led to the second floor. The Packhouse was huge. From outside, it appeared like an intercontinental hotel, sitting over thousands of square meters.
- This wing was reserved for the ranked wolves. Going up to the fourth floor is where you find the Alpha’s penthouse. Unlike my parents who lived alone a few meters from here, he stayed in the packhouse together with other unmated wolves ever since he lost his wife during a brutal war a few years back.
- It was strange how the Alpha stayed single without getting another chosen mate. Unlike our ancestors, there was no such thing as failing to live on without our mates once they died.
- After marking each other, a bond was formed but it wasn't as strong as a fated mate bond. In this era, a mate could die and the other would still survive and re-marry.
- Their love wasn't absolute like a true mate's love... it changed with time. That's why there was a lot of cheating in our world now... no one cared about a chosen mate bond.
- Perhaps the Alpha didn't want to marry for Leo's sake... the stupid dude loved his mother. However, I wonder if she would have been proud of his whorish ways.
- A sigh escaped my lips as I continued to make my way down.
- As the future Luna, I stayed on the second floor with the potential Gamma and Beta females. I was being trained to be the perfect wife. For an asshole…
- All my hard work was for nothing!
- Anger bubbled up within me and I released a low growl. How dare they make fun of me? How dare Leo go back on his word?
- A cold smirk crossed my lips.
- I’m going to strike back… he slept with someone else… it’s only right that I return the favour.
