Chapter 8

  • Tyler's car came to a halt in the hospital’s parking lot, leaving behind a path of dust and exhaust fumes.
  • He rushed out, locked the door in the same pace and headed towards the gigantic building, his attention entirely focused on Samantha.
  • “Omg.. isn't that Tyler Wills”, “Gosh he's so handsome!”, “Why is he here, is she sick?”
  • The reception area came alive with quiet whispers as soon as Tyler got in.
  • “Where is my wife?” Tyler demanded on getting to the counter, ignoring the curious stares and inaudible whispers flying around.
  • The receptionist, a middle aged nurse who had been engrossed in her computer and initially didn't notice the drama happening in the reception, gazed up almost immediately at the sound of the voice.
  • She was immediately taken aback by the sight she caught before her that she forgot what she was just asked.. Tyler Wills?!, He really came.
  • “Where is my wife?!” Tyler demanded again, his frustration was growing now.
  • The nurse adjusted her glasses as she gathered her resolve, her gaze shifting to the computer screen in front of her.
  • "Hi, Mr. Wills, Er… I believe your wife is in the ICU," she said quietly and professionally. "But I am afraid you cannot see her right now, visiting hours are over for the day."
  • Tyler scoffed.
  • His face became tight, his jaw closing in irritation.
  • "Listen to me," he hissed, his voice frigid and lethal. "I am not here for visiting hours.”
  • His hands clutched the tabletop as he leaned forward and stared directly into the nurse's eyes.
  • "I'm here for my wife," he said.
  • The 'my wife’ he kept hammering on had this kind of weird feeling with it inside him but he ignored and continued.
  • "Your rules or regulations don't really concern me. I need to see Samantha right now.. I mean now.”
  • The nurse fidgeted slightly.
  • Ann, Samantha's friend had come to her earlier, warning her not to let Tyler in Sam's ward peradventure he came.
  • How was she supposed to do this now?
  • She should have known it wouldn't be easy to disobey Tyler Wills.
  • “Hello??” Tyler's firm voice pierced through the receptionist's thoughts. “Do you realize I'm still standing here? I asked to see my wife and you're just gon’ ignore me? Do you want to lose your job?” He asked these questions without pause, his brows furrowed.. he was really losing it.
  • The nurse gulped hard, her eyes wide with uncertainty.
  • She fidgeted with the mouse, her fingers quivering slightly as she clicked on the computer screen.
  • "I-I'm sorry, sir," she mumbled, her voice cracking with confusion. “I…”
  • "Listen, I don't have time for this," Tyler snarled, interrupting her with a harsh growl. "My wife is in the ICU, and I want to know why. Now, are you going to assist me, or will I have to find someone who will?"
  • The nurse, noting Tyler's mounting anger, straightened her stance and nodded quickly.
  • "Alright, please, follow me, Mr. Wills."
  • Tyler's pulse was still racing as he followed the nurse leading him through a quiet, cold balcony with the smell of antiseptics filling the air.
  • He still couldn't explain the feelings flowing through him all he just wanted was for Samantha to be fine, to stay alive.. to not die.
  • His phone vibrated in his pocket, he brought it out and took a quick glance at it.
  • It was Julie.
  • He was in no mood for talks so he slid it back in his pockets. It was unusual.. he was so worried about Samantha he wouldn't even pick up Julie's call? The same Samantha he's been wanting to get rid of?
  • They finally got to ward five, Sam's ward. The nurse motioned for him to go in, he nodded and she excused him.
  • He moved towards the door, took in a sharp breath before opening it slightly.
  • “What the F are you doing here??” Ann's voice escaped her mouth almost immediately she turned her head towards the opening door, her expression showed the irritation she was feeling. “Why are you here? To confirm if she's dead??”
  • Tyler froze at the door, biting his lower lips in frustration.
  • He looked from Ann's face to Samantha who was looking so pale on the bed.
  • Her head was all bandaged, down to her neck with only her face exempted.
  • It must have been a terrible accident he thought within himself as a wave of relief washed through him.. at least, she's alive.
  • “I just asked you a question man.. wtf are you doing here??” Ann asked again.
  • Tyler shut the door behind him, rubbing his forehead as he advanced towards Ann who was now standing beside Sam's bed, fiercely protective of her friend.
  • "Hey Ann.. Please relax, I mean no harm." He said. "I swear I didn't mean for any of this to happen. Please believe me, I never wanted to hurt Sam," Tyler implored, desperation lacing his voice.
  • Ann’s anger boiled over, her voice booming with resentment.
  • “These nurses can’t follow simple instructions!” she hissed, turning a sharp gaze towards Tyler. “I said no animals allowed, yet they let this snake in here.”
  • She paused as she went speechless out of anger temporarily.
  • "Right. You never wanted to hurt Sam. Yet here she is, bandaged and battered because of you."
  • With a sharp glance in Samantha’s direction.. who laid unmoved, expressionless even with Tyler's presence.. Ann’s attention snapped back to Tyler, her anger now unmistakable.
  • “I didn't intend for this to happen.. I didn't even ask her to leave. She insisted on leaving over a minor disagreement.. how.. just how would I have known that she'd get into an accident?”
  • “Wait, you think this is a joke? You think you can just stroll in here, apologize, and everything will be fine?” Ann spat, her voice rising.
  • “No!” Tyler replied, raising his hands in a placating gesture. “I know what I did was wrong, Ann. I can’t take it back, but I can try to make it right.. just please help me beg Sam to talk to me. Why's she just staring at me like that?”
  • Ann scoffed mockingly, her expression one of disbelief. “Make it right?” she echoed. “You think there’s any way to make this right? Do you even have an idea of how much damage you've caused?!”
  • Tyler ran his hands through his hair in frustration.
  • Ann continued, venomous anger in her voice. “You think you can make it right after Sam almost lost her womb because of you snake?!”
  • Tyler's brows furrowed in confusion. “Womb? I don't understand”
  • Ann’s cold laughter rang out, “You don’t understand?” she spat. “Of course you don’t. You were too busy being selfish, thinking only of yourself and you stupid mistress” She gestured to Samantha, still creepily silent.
  • “She was pregnant, Tyler. Pregnant! And now, because of your reckless actions, she’s lucky to have survived the accident she got into because of you, let alone her womb.”
  • Tyler’s eyes grew wide, his hands tremble, "You... you can't be serious..." He stammered, unable to believe the words that had just escaped Ann's lips.
  • "Pregnant? Sam... She was pregnant?”
