Chapter 9 Playing The Devoted Husband
- Once the agonizing dinner banquet finally concluded, a silent servant escorted Luna through the sprawling stone corridors to the bedchamber prepared for her. The room was just as absurdly luxurious as the one in Rex's private mansion, yet everything about it felt cold and terrifyingly unfamiliar.
- “Is there anything else I may assist you with, Madam, before I take my leave?” the young servant asked. Her tone was hyper-polite, her head bowed so deeply her chin nearly touched her chest, her fearful gaze never once daring to meet Luna’s.
- It was a jarring contrast to Marie—the gentle, middle-aged maid back in Ashaven. Marie was warm, open, and actually made Luna feel like she had a genuine ally. Every fleeting stare felt like a harsh, invasive appraisal from head to toe, leaving Luna feeling utterly alienated and profoundly uncomfortable.
