- Luna paid very little attention to their calculating, venomous stares. To her modern mind, there was absolutely no point in exhausting herself by speculating about the toxic gossip running through their heads. Instead, she deliberately chose to focus her attention entirely on the extravagant spread of food before her.
- The long table was groaning under the weight of a staggeringly lavish variety of desserts. Delicate, pastel-colored macarons were meticulously arranged on tiered porcelain plates. There was a trembling caramel pudding coated in a shiny, rich golden glaze, miniature fruit tarts crowned with perfectly ripe, glistening strawberries, and delicate silver saucers bearing thick, mouth-watering slices of decadent chocolate cake. Although she carefully projected an aura of aristocratic calmness, her mind was on high alert. She could palpably sense the oppressive, suffocating tension rolling off the women; the atmosphere in the sunlit garden felt infinitely heavier than it ever should have been.
