Chapter 5 Taking on the Case

  • Nathan's POV:
  • After ending the bond with Riley, I found myself running into her again at the coffee shop in the neutral zone for the Lycan Pact.
  • Since her outburst during our marking ritual, she hadn't returned to the villa I bought for her. I have no idea where she's been. Was she a lone wolf now?
  • In my anger, I forgot to arrange a place for her. This woman's got some nerve to become a rogue.
  • I hardened my expression as I looked at Riley.
  • Her love for me had twisted her into someone I barely recognize. She had hurt Delia, but that was also partly my fault.
  • When Delia suggested that Riley pay for what she did, I took all the responsibility upon myself.
  • Delia agreed to let me bear the burden instead of Riley.
  • Oddly, Delia's idea of punishment was simply to have me accompany her for a month, during which I must be at her beck and call, fulfilling all her reasonable requests.
  • Was that even a punishment?
  • Maybe she suggested punishing Riley out of hurt from being wronged by her own sister. Deep down, she might also be protecting Riley.
  • Delia was a very kind-hearted woman; I knew that from the moment we started dating.
  • Riley's POV:
  • Delia looked at Nathan's cold expression and pretended to comfort him. She said, "Nathan, don't be mad at Riley for how she treats me. You know she always is"
  • She trailed off, reminding him of how many wrong things I had done out of jealousy over their relationship.
  • Was this b*tch an award-winning actress? All the wrongdoings were hers!
  • But Nathan loved her, so he only believed what Delia said.
  • I was disgusted by both of them. I shot them a mocking glance and said to Nathan, "Delia has been eyeing the position of Luna of the Stormclaw Pack for quite some time now. Why not marry her already so she can stop sending me those disgusting texts?"
  • Delia's expression changed at the mention of the texts. She quickly said, "Riley, I've explained to you countless times. You misunderstood the meaning of the text. I accidentally sent it to you. There's nothing going on between Nathan and me."
  • Nathan looked at me with contempt and said, "No need to explain so much to her. Let's go."
  • Nathan led Delia out of the coffee shop.
  • Lucinda watched them leave and glanced at them coldly. She echoed, "Riley! Ending the bond with him was the right move. That sh*tbag isn't worthy of you. And that Delia—ugh, she makes me sick. If it weren't for the no-shifting rule in the neutral zone, I'd shift and beat her up." Lucinda fumed.
  • Yeah, why should I take this crap?
  • Nathan could only hurt me because I loved him, but now we're done!
  • I turned and looked calmly at Lucinda. "You mentioned that if Nathan loses this case, he could lose billions?"
  • Lucinda remained engrossed in her fantasy of assaulting Delia. She was taken aback by my question and responded, "Yes, but why?"
  • I gazed out the window; my gaze was calm. "Lucinda, get in touch with Alpha Jeremy. I'm taking the case."
  • Lucinda gasped and covered her mouth in shock. She stammered, "You ... you're not taking this case out of revenge against Alpha Nathan, are you?"
  • I elegantly picked up a napkin and smiled at her. "This case is interesting, don't you think?"
  • Lucinda was still stunned, trying to process everything. "But why would you help Jeremy? You used to love Nathan so much and did so many things for him."
  • I cut her off and said, "It's exactly like the way you put it; that was in the past, and I'm no longer his Luna."
  • "Sigh ... " Lucinda sighed and nodded. Then a thought struck her. "But previously, you could participate in trials remotely. In this case, Jeremy wants to meet you in person. Once he finds out you were once Nathan's Luna, he might not trust you."
  • "Don't worry, I'll handle it."
  • Lucinda nodded and said, "Alright, I'll take care of the other details. The legal rep on Jeremy's side is your old classmate, Tristan Adams. The communication should go smoothly."
  • She sensed that I had truly changed. Lucinda was genuinely pleased for me and linked her arm with mine. "Riley, come to my place. I'm cooking tonight, and we're going to celebrate your newfound freedom!"
  • After dinner at Lucinda's, we discussed the case until late at night. It was almost midnight when I finally headed home.
  • As soon as I walked into the villa, a servant approached me. "Ms. Wells, we checked the security cameras, and it looks like someone followed you home."
