Chapter 3 The Tragic Wedding

  • Nathan's POV:
  • I never thought my jealousy toward Delia would turn her into someone completely unrecognizable.
  • When my wolf first found her, she was an adorable, charming little angel. Somewhere along the way, a devil had taken root in her heart.
  • It started with her fabricating some ridiculous text message and secretly checking my phone.
  • My phone contains important secrets about the pack. Even though we had established a bond as mates, she wasn't yet officially recognized as the Luna of the Stormclaw Pack, and she had no right to pry into such confidential matters.
  • Then, things escalated. She hired detectives to track my movements and even tapped into my apartment's surveillance to monitor my daily routine—all because she suspected me of rekindling an old flame with my ex.
  • Delia was my brother's mate. No matter what, I would never have any other thoughts about her. How could she doubt her own mate?
  • She kept crossing my boundaries, and my patience with her grew thinner and thinner.
  • Until the day of our marking ritual, she tried to murder Delia.
  • I decided that I would never allow my Luna to be such a malicious woman.
  • Riley's POV:
  • Nathan hesitated for a second, but soon enough, it seemed like he made up his mind. Finally, the cold words came from him.
  • "Yes, I reject you as my mate."
  • The moment the rejection left Nathan's mouth, an overwhelming wave of pain shot through my entire body, like someone was stabbing my heart repeatedly.
  • So, this was what it feels like to be rejected by your mate.
  • My beautiful dream was over.
  • I held back the pain and adjusted my expression to avoid looking too pathetic.
  • I lifted my head and replied icily, "I accept. Let the Moon Goddess bear witness. I reject Nathan Hansley as my mate."
  • With that, I pulled the ring off my finger and threw it on the ground.
  • I turned to leave but stopped after a few steps.
  • "You ... I ... " Nathan was clutching his chest. Was he feeling the same pain as when he was rejected by a mate?
  • "Riiiiip—" The sound of fabric tearing. "What a garbage! If that b*tch wants to wear it, she can have it!"
  • I tore the wedding dress to shreds.
  • Ignoring the man's anger behind me, I threw the diamond-studded dress to the ground, shifted back into my wolf form, and left.
  • ...
  • I returned to my villa in the Neutral Zone. The servants were shocked to see me suddenly appear.
  • Today was supposed to be my marking ritual. Normally, I wouldn't be home at this hour.
  • After greeting me respectfully, they quickly excused themselves without asking questions.
  • I sat down and called my assistant, Lucinda Clarke. "How's everything going?"
  • Lucinda was stunned and asked, "Isn't today the big day when you become the official Luna of the Stormclaw Pack? Why are you calling me?"
  • "I ended the bond with Nathan. I've decided to focus on my career."
  • "What?" Lucinda practically exploded over the phone.
  • "No way! Did I hear you right? That's the guy you've been crushing on for three years! The Moon Goddess actually answered your prayers, and he became your mate! You were even willing to give up your career to be Luna and support his pack. You've ended the bond with him? You've got to be kidding!"
  • Lucinda was my assistant; apart from her and a few close friends, no one knows about my second identity—
  • I am the top attorney, Iris!
  • Since the werewolf society transitioned into modern civilization, packs rarely resort to violence to resolve their disputes. A solid legal system was established, and because of the wolves' combative nature, the lawyer profession was highly popular in the werewolf community.
  • Lucinda was still reeling in shock when I asked, "Has anyone come to see me lately? Any interesting cases?"
  • Her eyes flickered with a hint of regret. Lucinda said, "There is one, actually. They're offering a sky-high fee, but no one dares to take it. You can't take it."
  • "Oh?" My voice, usually indifferent, suddenly showed a hint of interest.
