• Adele was seated in her cubicle in the joined office, completely lost in thought. She was thinking about a lot of things, especially about the fact that Shannelle couldn't just be nice to her even for a single second. The previous night, she(Shannelle) had provoked her and only Jamal's intervention made her not burst into tears.
• Everyday of her life, she wondered what it was about her that caused her mother and sister-in-law to hate her so much. She wondered what she had done to make them despise her so much. No matter how much her husband loved and cared for her, no matter how much she tried to convince herself that his love and acceptance was enough for her, she knew deep down in her heart that she needed both Shannelle and Aliya's love before she'd ever feel welcomed into that family as a daughter-in-law.
