Chapter 4 Called To The Vice President's Office

  • Zoe stood in front of the company, looking lost in thought. She didn't think she was going to get the job, and she even got it without an interview with the old man whom she scammed.
  • Something is not right. This doesn't feel right at all. Zoe thought as she kept standing there.
  • “Hey!” She heard and looked up to see Emily standing beside her car.
  • “I've been horning, have you lost your hearing or what?” Emily yelled.
  • Zoe started walking toward Emily on sighting her, she got into the car and sat on the passenger side.
  • Emily got in through the driver's side and brought the engine of her car to life.
  • “I've been horning, what were you so busy thinking of?” Emily grumbled.
  • “I find it weird,” Zoe mumbled.
  • “You find what weird? I guess you didn't get the job, saw many other applicants coming out of the company. They all looked well-qualified.” Emily grunted.
  • “Yes, right? They all looked qualified, right?” Zoe turned towards Emily and asked.
  • “Of course, you haven't even started college. You only have a high school degree, so yeah,” Emily answered, driving out of the company's premises.
  • “But why did they give me the job? And more so, that rotten old man gave it to me.” Zoe thought out.
  • “Did you get the job?” Emily screamed.
  • “Stop shouting, I'm able to go crazy myself.” Zoe groaned.
  • “Wait, you got the job?” Emily made to pull over.
  • “No, keep driving. I need to go home and sleep, I need to sleep, else I'll go crazy.” Zoe muttered.
  • “Yes, yes,” Emily agreed and kept on driving.
  • “But why the long face? It's a good thing you got the job, why the long face?” Emily was curious.
  • Zoe turned slightly to face Emily. “Do you remember that old man who grabbed my ass and I scammed him of his money?”
  • “Yes, why did you bring him up?”
  • “The man was the interviewer, that fucking old bastard,” Zoe revealed.
  • Emily gasped loudly.
  • “You don't mean it. It's a damn lie!” Emily screamed.
  • “I'm serious, I swear. I was so shocked to see him seated behind the big table. I thought I was going to die,” Zoe gasped as she remembered her experience in the man's office.
  • After announcing to her that she got the job, Zoe sat back on the sit and the old man stood up.
  • “You know the vice president or what?” The old man mumbled, but Zoe didn't grab his question because her thoughts were all over the place.
  • “You shouldn't have got this job, you are only but a wench, I'll make you pay. You'll either have that sex with me or I'll reveal your secret and get you arrested.”
  • “Do you mean I got the job?” Zoe suddenly asked, standing up to her feet.
  • “Yes, bitch!” The old man snapped.
  • “That's great, I never thought you'd be a good old man. I'll get going now,” Zoe bid him goodbye as she left the man's office.
  • “Who does that bitch think she is? Kids these days are disrespectful, what does she think of herself?” She heard the man yell.
  • She smirked and made to leave, but the secretary from earlier blocked her way.
  • “You are to resume work on Monday, you should rest at home for this week, you are expected to adequately prepare yourself too. You'll be paid your first salary once you resume, too, congratulations and goodbye.” The secretary announced before quickly returning to her desk.
  • Zoe farrowed her brows.
  • “Oh, okay, thank you.” Everything seemed unreal to her.
  • “Do you mean the old man mentioned the vice president?” Emily wanted.
  • “I think so, or maybe I heard it wrong, he might have mentioned the president,” Zoe responded.
  • “But what business do you have with the president? The president is an aged man, he is the vice president's father and is to retire soon.”
  • “I know right? This is all confusing, more reasons I need my sleep. I need my beauty sleep in other not to run mad.” Zoe ruffled her hair as she answered.
  • **
  • “Why? Why would you give someone you hate a job?” Jack asked, not understanding his brother.
  • He thought Henry was going to make Mr Anthony, the old man interviewing them, give someone else the job and not Zoe but got a big surprise when he heard Henry instructing Mr Anthony to give Zoe the job, and she was to resume the following Monday.
  • “It's all part of my revenge, do you think I'll let her off easily? I'll make her beg me for mercy. She said she doesn't know how to apologize, I'll make her learn how to apologize.” Henry smirked.
  • “You are weird, you don't feel like my brother, Henry. You are also very scary.” Jack mumbled.
  • “I intend to be that way for a long time brother, sorry to disappoint you, and are you not supposed to be at school? What in Mary's name are you doing here?”
  • “So you are just realizing? You were consumed with your revenge plan, I'm starting to think you are madly in love with her.” Jack said, moving away from Henry.
  • “Get out of my office, now!” Henry screamed.
  • **THE FOLLOWING MONDAY**
  • Zoey was being shown around her working area and co-workers when a message came for her.
  • “Zoey James, you are to report to the vice president's office for a special interview. Thereafter, you'll be given your first pay.” The messenger supplied this info.
  • Zoe's temperature rose at this news.
  • “Must I go?” She asked her department chief, and her co-workers turned to stare at her, disbelief written all over their faces.
  • “Let me escort you there, I'll take you there myself.” Her department chief told her.
  • Standing in front of the vice president's office, Zoe panicked.
  • Should I just run away now? I think I should. He might send me to jail if he recognizes me. I can only pray that he doesn't recognize me, but why am I feeling so tense? Zoe thought.
  • “Miss Zoey?" She heard and looked up.
  • “You can go in now, the vice president is ready to see you.” Her department chief announced.
  • Zoe shook her head and turned the doorknob of Henry's office, with her heart pounding loudly, she walked into his office.
