Chapter 3 Zoe Meets The Old Man Again

  • Zoe stood in front of the skyscraper, she was to go in to the second floor of the building for the interview.
  • She turned back to look at Emily, who sat inside her car, staring out at her.
  • “Are you sure about this?” Zoe mumbled, feeling troubled.
  • “Yes, you should go in. It's almost 7 am, you don't want to be late. Go now,” Emily urged her.
  • “Once again, take care of yourself and my brother if I don't make it out alive,” Zoe mumbled before she tightened her grip on the files she was carrying and proceeded to the security men standing in front of the door.
  • “I'm here for the interview,” Zoe simply told them, they directed her towards an elevator, and she immediately took the elevator to the second floor.
  • On getting there, she found about twenty other applicants. What in the mother fucking name is this? Zoe thought, staring at their faces.
  • “Are you one of the applicants?” A lady who seemed like a secretary walked up to her and questioned her.
  • “Yes,” Zoe turned and replied. Does it look like I'm not? Zoe thought, mentally eyeing the secretary.
  • “Okay, you should take your sit, you are number 25, you'll have to wait for your turn.” The secretary announced to her politely, and she took a sit.
  • “What is your name, I'm sorry?” The secretary interviewed.
  • “Zoey James,” Zoe replied. Is there a problem or what? She made to ask but decided not to.
  • “Okay,” the secretary nodded before leaving her secretary's desk.
  • The secretary took the elevator up to the top floor and to Henry's office.
  • “Sir, the lady you asked for just arrived. Zoey James,” the secretary informed Daniel, who kept blocking her from catching a glimpse of Henry.
  • “You may leave now, he heard it.” Daniel urged and she left.
  • “Sir, she came for the interview,” Daniel told, turning back to see the smiling face of Henry.
  • “So she came, she dared to come here?” Henry laughed, referring to no one in particular.
  • “Well, she's only but a bitch who doesn't have shame. But it's good, show me the footage of the interview floor. I want to watch her with my eyes,” Henry smirked, walking towards his computer.
  • “What are your plans?” Jack Arthur, Henry's younger brother, questioned, funnily swinging his foot.
  • “You should watch me, don't ask questions. I'm going to put that crazy bitch in a very tight corner. She won't see it coming at all.” Henry smirked.
  • Daniel brought the footage of the second floor to his screen, and he searched for Zoe with his eyes until he found her.
  • “Wait, is she the one?” Jack implored, standing behind his brother.
  • “She is the one, but she is not with blue hair again, she probably thought I wouldn't recognize her with her black hair. She's a crazy bitch,” Henry smirked.
  • Daniel highlighted Zoe in particular, so they can all focus on her.
  • “Woah, she looks hot,” Jack commented. Henry angrily turned to glare at his brother.
  • “I'll roast your mouth if you praise her again,” Henry warned.
  • “Why? She's way more beautiful and hot than the previous girls you dated.” Jack said, taking a step away from his brother.
  • “I'll sincerely throw you out of the window if you utter a word again.” Henry frowned.
  • “Yeah, whatever.” Jack rolled his eyes.
  • **
  • Zoe sat impatiently waiting for her turn.
  • “When is it going to get to me? There are four people before me, I don't feel great about this.” Zoey mumbled to herself as she tapped her foot on the floor.
  • “Hi, are you nervous?” A lady beside her, also an applicant, turned and inquired.
  • “No,” Zoe replied, almost yelling. The other applicants turned in her direction instantly.
  • “I mean, no, I'm not. I'm not nervous,” Zoe replied, lowering her voice.
  • “It's just that you kept tapping your foot, I don't mean any harm.” The lady said and moved away from her a little.
  • The next applicant got called in, and soon it was Zoe's turn.
  • Zoe took a deep breath in to calm herself down. She has been praying silently for the interviewer to be another person and not the vice president himself.
  • I'll bash his damn head and run away if it turns out to be him, but lord, I need this job. The loan sharks will kill me if I don't pay them their money and Leo won't join them for exams. Zoe thought.
  • She knocked on the door as the other applicants do, and she was ushered into the office.
  • She kept her head low as she walked to the chair in front of the interviewer's desk and sat down.
  • She slowly looked up after summoning up courage and to her relief found an older man seated there.
  • She gulped down, feeling relieved that it was not the vice president, but she got an even bigger shock of her life when she recognized the man in front of her.
  • The old man, what is the old man doing here? Zoe thought as she stared at the man's face, he was yet to look up at her.
  • The man whom she had scammed at a club on Friday, the same day she bumped into the vice president. What is the old man doing here and in front of her? Zoe jumped up to her feet and the old man was forced to look up from what he was doing.
  • The old man's eyes also widened.
  • “Bitch you…” The old man pointed.
  • “You!” Zoe pointed at the old man.
  • The old man shook his head and chuckled. “Aha, I finally got you.” He smiled wickedly.
  • “You…!” Zoe kept pointing at the old man, her expression funny.
  • The telephone in front of the old man started ringing, and he picked up the call, ignoring Zoe.
  • “Yes, Mr vice president?” The old man answered.
  • “Yes? What? Okay, sir.” The old man said before dropping the call.
  • The old man's face changed to that of anger and then disappointment before he spoke up.
  • “You are hired.” The old man groaned out.
  • “What? What?” Zoe half yelled, almost losing her balance as she took a step forward.
  • “You are hired, bitch!”
