Chapter 1

  • On our seventh wedding anniversary, my husband tried 99 different positions to please me in his office.
  • After our lovemaking, I overheard him talking to his female assistant.
  • "Aurora is not young anymore, how can she be as tight as you?"
  • "I'm just doing this to avoid suspicion. Don't worry—she's just a housewife, she won't make a fuss."
  • My heart ached as I closed my eyes, letting tears fall freely.
  • I thought our love was unbreakable—yet it crumbled so easily.
  • His vows were all lies.
  • Feeling desolate, I texted my father, the head of the richest family in the world.
  • "I’ve lost, Dad. I'll return in three days, and I'll take back all the investments from the Finch family once I’m back!"
  • ---
  • After sending the message, the closed office door was opened from the outside.
  • Julian's female assistant, Lana Brooks, came in with a cup of coffee.
  • Lana provocatively glanced at me, deliberately showing the ambiguous marks on her neck.
  • "Sorry, madam, just had a chat with Mr. Finch about work..."
  • She pretended to cover her mouth in embarrassment. "Oh, I shouldn't be saying this in front of you, madam. After all, you only know how to do laundry and cook every day."
  • I looked at her calmly, lips sealed.
  • Seeing my silence, Lana glared at me hatefully and whispered in my ear.
  • "You heard what Julian said, right? He thinks you're old and as lifeless in bed as a dead fish."
  • "And do you know why you haven't had children all these years? It's because Julian gives you birth control pills after every time. He doesn't want to have a child with a woman who can only be a housewife."
  • My pupils shrank, and my hand instinctively touched my abdomen.
  • After years of marriage, I had always wanted a child, but no matter how hard we tried, I couldn't get pregnant.
  • Julian would always comfort me. "It's okay, it will happen when the time is right."
  • And then he would hand me a glass of milk.
  • Thinking about that glass of milk that was always there after lovemaking, my heart sank.
  • It wasn't about helping me sleep, it was about preventing pregnancy.
  • Having achieved her goal, Lana smirked and, upon hearing footsteps behind her, she quickly picked up the freshly brewed coffee and poured it directly onto my arm.
  • A sharp pain shot through me, but Lana fell to the ground, holding her face.
  • The familiar scent of cologne wafted over as my husband hurried to help Lana, who had fallen to the ground.
  • "Aurora, what are you doing?!"
  • Seeing the slap mark on Lana's face, Julian felt extremely distressed.
  • "Who gave you the right to hit someone in my office?!"
  • His instinctive defense of Lana was glaringly obvious, her skin stinging from the slap was nowhere near the pain he brought to me.
  • Lana melodramatically took Julian's hand.
  • "Julian, don't blame the lady. It's my fault for being stupid and saying the wrong thing, which made the lady hit me. Don't argue because of me."
  • Hearing Lana's words, Julian looked at me coldly.
  • "Aurora, apologize to Lana right now."
  • I looked at him, desperately suppressing the urge to roar out the pain in my heart.
  • "Julian, I didn't lay a hand on her. There's surveillance in the office, you can check it yourself."
  • Julian glanced at me skeptically and got up to check the surveillance.
  • Lana's face changed, but she suddenly got up and kept bowing to me, apologizing continuously.
  • "I'm sorry, madam. I was wrong. Julian has been working all day and is already tired. Please don't go through the trouble of checking the surveillance. It's all my fault, I apologize!"
  • With that, she seemed to lose her balance and fell to the ground.
