Chapter 7

  • S.E.V.E.N
  • Faith felt Dan's arms around her waist as he softly kissed her across her lips.
  • "I didn't expect that you would come here at this hour, why didn't you call me? Did anything go wrong?"
  • He pulled back and turned his head in the left direction.
  • Faith watched as the concern in his eyes slowly vaporized and was replaced by a disapproving and hostile look.
  • He was staring in the direction of Sterling Hunter's car.
  • "I thought you took him home, why is he here? Don't tell me you allowed him to drop you here!"
  • Faith met Dan's question with silence and watched as his eyes widened as he confirmed the answer she hadn't spoken aloud.
  • "He only asked the driver to drop me here because__" Faith started but was cut off by Dan who shouted, his voice dripping with bitterness.
  • "He also drove you to work, isn't it? Since when did Sterling Hunter become your personal driver, I thought you worked for him, since when did it become the other way round?"
  • Faith stared at her boyfriend, maybe it was a bad idea to come here, she had thought she would make them meet, and maybe they would get to talk about the issue between them.
  • The sound of a car engine distracted them, Faith turned around to see the car already leaving, the tinted windows were wound up so she couldn't see Sterling Hunter. She returned her attention to Dan.
  • "I only wanted you to meet__" Faith started again but once again, Dan interrupted.
  • "I don't like the way he was staring at you. He wants you. Stay away from him!"
  • Faith tried to see if Dan was in any way joking but she met his dead serious stare.
  • "Stop saying the most ridiculous thing! It isn't even funny!"
  • "It wasn't meant to be! I need you to be very far away from him, perhaps you do like getting into his expensive car so much!"
  • Faith stared at Dan in complete shock and disbelief. Was that was he thought of her?
  • "I don't know what's going on with you this night but it isn't as you think! Mr. Sterling Hunter doesn't want me!"
  • She had to deal with the rumors at work and now, her boyfriend was doubting her too?
  • "There you go, you didn't say you didn't want him either." Dan spoke and Faith held his stare.
  • For a moment, she felt a twinge of guilt recalling both times she had caught herself checking out her boss, but there was nothing attached to it, she couldn't even see herself being with him.
  • "How could you even say that?! Are you saying that I'm having something to do with him?" Faith fired, she was starting to deeply regret coming over to this place, she should have just gone home directly.
  • Why was Dan suddenly behaving this way?___insecure
  • "What can I say? you hurried to offer aid when you heard he's in trouble! You didn't even care about what I wanted __"
  • "What's wrong with you? I can't believe you're saying these things! Are you j__jealous or something? I only came here because I wanted to allow you to sort things out with him!" Faith interrupted, and Dan suddenly gripped her shoulders.
  • "That's exactly what I'm talking about! I don't need you to get involved in our affairs, I just want you to stay away from him as far as you can! I can find you a better job, you don't need to work for him anymore!"
  • Did he know what he was saying?
  • He wasn't asking that she quit her job, was he?
  • "You are wrong." Faith met Dan's stare.
  • "Mr. Hunter is one of the best people I've been opportune to work for, he's never made any inappropriate move towards me, do you know he allowed me to keep my job despite telling him about our relationship? He's supportive of me! I know him well enough to know that he has no ill intentions!" She spoke and saw the frustration in Dan's eyes.
  • "That's the exact problem! You are feeling the exact way he wants you to! He's controlled your personal life for so long and a little freedom has you feeling all grateful towards him! You think he's some kind of savior or some shit! You can choose to believe my words or not, can't you see this whole argument is because of him?!"
  • Faith inhaled deeply, she knew there was no way to convince Dan, his opinion of Sterling Hunter would never change.
  • "I'm not quitting my job because of your misconception and insecurities, I'm going home!"
  • Dan was so wrong!
  • The whole argument was almost laughable, Sterling Hunter could have any woman he wanted. Dan could rest assured that Sterling Hunter would never go for plain Ms. Jameson.

  • Faith woke up late, she jumped from the bed with a gasp when she realized it was already almost 8:am.
  • How did she sleep for so long? She dashed into the bathroom to run a quick shower, when she was done, she wrapped a towel around herself.
  • Her eyes fell on her phone when she walked out of the bathroom.
  • There were no missed calls from Dan.
  • She was still angry at him.
  • She never knew he could be so hard-headed to the extent to say such hurtful things about her.
  • How could he even think she was after Sterling Hunter's expensive car or the man himself?
  • This was the first time she and Dan were fighting since the two months they started dating and it was over something as ridiculous as this.
  • Faith wore her clothes and gathered her hair in a messy bun when she heard her doorbell ring. She walked downstairs wondering if it was Humphrey, the last thing she wanted was for Sterling Hunter to take her to work again. It had stirred so many misunderstandings the last time.
  • She yanked the door open only to see Dan. She watched as he took in her work attire.
  • "You're going to work." He stated.
  • Faith crossed her arms, "Yes, I am. I already told you last night, I won't quit my job!"
  • Dan sighed, running his hands through his hair.
  • "That's exactly why I'm here, I want to apologize for last night, Faith. I believe I overreacted, I said a lot of things which I'm sorry for. I don't like it when we fight like this and it's all my fault this time for not being understanding." Faith could see the sincerity in his eyes and it melted away the irritation in her heart.
  • "How about I make it up for you by breakfast?" He asked hopefully and Faith smiled.
  • A glance at her wristwatch told her there was barely little time left for work as she had woken up late.
  • "I'm afraid I'll have to pass, I'm already running out of time!" She grabbed her purse from the sofa.
  • "Alright, at least let me drive you to work, will you?"
  • Faith nodded as Dan retracted his car keys from his pocket.
  • They started to head towards the door when the doorbell rang again.
  • Faith hauled it open.
  • Lo and behold, it was none other than Sterling Hunter.
  • He was dressed in a grey-colored business suit, she lifted her gaze to meet his pointed stare.
  • "Ready?" His deep voice broke the silence.
