Chapter 30 The Marriage Burns

• The sharp scent of antiseptic burned Clara’s nose as she pushed open the hospital door. The rhythmic beeping of the heart monitor filled the sterile air, but it wasn’t enough to calm the panic that had been clawing at her since the attack.
• On the hospital bed, Ethan lay still, his lips broken and his skin pallid. His arm was securely bandaged, and a huge cut ran up his forehead. His breaths were strained and shallow, rising and falling in his chest.
• Clara exhaled, forcing herself forward. She wasn’t supposed to be here. Vincent had warned her, if Alexander knew she still cared, he’d use it against them. But she couldn’t stay away.
