Chapter 5 His Ex Wife
- “It's a shame that you don't know that the woman you were married to for two years is red-haired, don’t you think?”
- Lucian watched his grandfather’s beaded brow and then shook his head. There was no way he was going to believe what his grandfather had just said.
- “Cassandra had wine hair. She is not red-haired.”
- “Yes, of course. She is not. Believe whatever you want to, but I promise you that the worst mistake you’d ever make was chasing that woman out of your life. The so-called alimony that you had sent to her five years ago was still in her account, breathing as it is.”
- Lucian creased his brow and followed his grandfather in the wheelchair with his eyes as he wheeled to the drawer beside him.
- “What do you mean? She didn’t touch the money?”
- Grandfather Go ignored him, opened the third step of his drawer, took out a file, and returned to his position.
- “Here’s her bank statement for the past five years. Just because I am bedridden doesn’t mean I still don’t have my way. Cassandra did not touch the Alimony. She had nowhere to go, nor did she have money. What could have happened to her?”
- Lucian snatched the paper from his grandfather and stared at its content with a cold, disapproving look. The money he had sent to her five years ago was still there. Intact.
- He tore his eyes off the paper, tightened his grip on it, and returned to look at his grandfather.
- “Nothing happened to her. Cassandra is fine and healthy.”
- “And how would you know that?”
- “She must be living her best life with her lover. The man she cheated on me with. She might not know that I had sent the Alimony since I didn’t call her when I sent it. Don’t get yourself thinking that that woman is righteous. She’s fake and a cheat. Divorcing her was the best decision I’d ever make,” he convinced himself.
- She could have eloped with the man he was seeing while she was married to him. Cassandra should be the least of his worries. It’s been five years and he’d never want to admit that he might have made a wrong decision.
- The reason his grandfather was refusing to believe was clear. His grandfather liked Cassandra very much. When he was married to the woman, she never failed each day to visit his Grandfather, cook for him, run his bath, tell him stories, and many more.
- He understood that was enough for her to win his grandfather over.
- What his grandfather was refusing to accept was that the woman was a cunning, gold digger who was only after his money just like her father.
- “The way you think is crazy and I feel so sorry for you,” Grandfather Go shook his head, a sympathetic expression plastered on his face.
- “Grand…”
- “Get out,” he cut him short.
- “Come on, I…”
- “The only thing I owe you is the chairman title of L.G groups and you have it already. As long as you don't find that woman, don't return here,” Grandfather Go hissed and then looked away.
- Lucian sighed, not interested in exchanging any more words with his old man, and he turned to leave.
- “Make sure you use your drugs. I will visit again,” he said before he finally exited the room.
- *
- Not waiting to have the meal his mother had prepared for him, he strolled towards his car and then entered as the driver was already holding the door for him.
- “Where should I go, sir?” The driver asked carefully, aware that his boss was in one of his filthy moods at the moment.
- “Home,” Lucian replied, his head resting on the headrest of the car seat.
- ***
- “Nina!” Vasilissa called out as soon as she entered her apartment and called out for her secretary.
- Nina had been working under her since four years ago when she first became a lawyer, and the lady had insisted on following her to the USA.
- “You’re early, I thought you were going to stay longer since you were quite obsessed with the chairman of L.G as L.G itself,” Nina walked out of the room with a cup of coffee in her hand.
- “You are crazy. Who said I was obsessed with the chairman of that company?” She hissed, covered the space between them, and collected the cup of coffee from the lady.
- Nina was more like her best friend. On the outside, they maintained a strict boss and secretary relationship but behind closed doors, they often teased each other.
- That’s what best friends do, right?
- Oh, not to forget, Nina was a great person too.
- She would never fail to take Vasilissa’s side anywhere and wherever.
- They didn’t give their relationship a name, but they both knew they mattered to each other.
- “Are you the only one who is not aware that you’re stalking them?” Nina raised her brows.
- Vasilissa frowned, “I am not stalking him. Do you call that stalking?”
- “Yes, and for your information, stalking is a serious offense.”
- “Please drop this.”
- Nina tugged her lips into a smile and shook her head. “Why did you not bring Hazel along? It pretty looked to me like you'd be settling here,” she looked around at the unwrapped boxes of house appliances that had just been delivered.
- “Hazel does not need to be here. Not now. Dad is taking care of her,” Vasillisa looked away.
- “Hmm?”
- “Here’s the contract from L.G. I'll sign it later. While I look it over, can you find me something?” she glinted a smile at her.
- “What is that?”
- “I don't know if it would be easy, but the founder of L.G, is he alive? I can’t find anything on that,” she said.
- “Liz, you want me to find something that huge in a country I certainly have no connection whatsoever?” Nina widened her eyes.
- That's true. What was she thinking?
- “Ah… You're right.” she pressed her lips together.
- “Here is someone who doesn't have an obsession with the LG's,” Nina rolled her eyes, and then turned to leave.
- “Whatever.”
- Vasilissa took her lower lips in her mouth and then caressed it with her teeth.
- Even after many years have passed.
- Grandfather Go was still one person she respected and was curious about his well being.
- After Lucian became the Chairman four years ago, and the chairman was present at his inauguration, the press hadn't aired anything about the man, nor had he made a visit to the company.
- The old man was well, right?
- ==
- Lucian’s residence.
- “Mia!” Lucian hollered as soon as he stepped inside his living room and then looked around for the older woman who walked out of the kitchen with a half scared look on her face.
- “What’s wrong, Lucian?” The woman asked, unsure of what the situation was.
- Obviously, Lucian didn’t look like he was going to ask for his meal, or tissue paper, or new towel.
- “Cassandra…” he paused and scratched the back of his head.
- Mia raised a brow suspiciously. Whatever this man in front of her was going to say was probably something he was uncomfortable with.
- She had been working for Lucian in his house for almost ten years.
- Definitely, she knew everything about the man.
- She treated him like he was her son, and without words, Lucian did the same.
- Lucian wasn’t the type to express his feelings, and she knew better that Lucian didn’t see her as a worker, but someone more.
- “What happened to her?”
- “You were very close with her, right?”
- Mia tilted her head and nodded her head slowly, wondering where the conversation was heading, “yes.”
- “What… What was the color of her hair?”
- He asked and Mia raised her brows.
- “It’s not like I’m really curious or anything. I just… uhm, I think…”
- Lucian saw no reason why he had to explain himself, but the urge to defend himself came from nowhere.
- “Why are you suddenly curious about her?” She creased her brows.
- Lucian glanced at the woman who stared at him suspiciously and then shook his head. He removed his hands from his pocket and then waved it at her.
- “Come on, it’s definitely not what you’re thinking.”
- “What am I thinking?” Mia questioned.
- “Uhm… whatever. I just…”
- Chuckling, she interrupted him, “Cassandra had red hair.”
- “Red hair? Not wine?” Lucian creased his brows.
- “It is red. You don’t remember? She had red hair. Oh, and freckles too. She had freckles under her eyes and her jaw. She was a very beautiful woman and…”
- “God, Mia,” Lucian frowned.
- He only asked what color her hair was. Right?
- “I guess old age is making me blab too much. Wait here. I’ll show you something,” she pointed her index finger at him as if she was warning a cat not to touch the fried meat in front of it.
- Lucian watched the woman out of his sight and then exhaled.
- If Cassandra had red hair, how didn’t he notice that?
- But then again, it’s not like he had always liked the sight of the woman.
- After a few minutes, Mia returned with a small frame in her hand and then pointed it at him, which made him frown in curiosity.
- “What’s in there?”
- “Won’t you see for yourself? She creased her brow.
- Lucian collected the frame from her and then flipped it over. Unconsciously, he held his breath as he stared at the woman in the frame.
- His ex-wife. Cassandra.
- “Why…”
- “That’s the only single picture of her. She took it on your wedding day,” she cut him short.
- Lucian stared at the woman who looked like she was the happiest on earth because of her wedding even though she clearly knew that she was getting into a forced commitment.
- Her blue eyes shone clearly in the picture and her lips that widened into a heartily smile which revealed the beautiful set of teeth.
- He then returned to look at her red hair that was packed in a neat ponytail tail. His ex-wife definitely had red hair.
- He bit his lower lip, closed his eyes for a bit and then took a glance at her face before he dropped it on the chair beside him.
- However, something else drew his attention, her eyes.
- He picked it up again and then looked at it again.
- The eyes looked so familiar.
- He remembered feeling some blue eyes pinning on him deeply.
- But then again, those eyes belonged to Cassandra and that explained why it seemed familiar.
- Had she always looked beautiful or was he just ignorant?
- He hissed, dropped the frame and then brushed past the woman.
- “Lucian,” she called out and then hurried after him.
- “Why do you still have that, Mia? I remember telling you to dispose them.”
- He said as he ascended the stairs, leaving the older woman to imagine the angry look on his face.
- “I only had that. I didn’t want to forget her. Cassandra was a good person. It’s you who failed to see it.”
- “Enough of Cassandra. I only asked about her hair color because I wanted to clarify some things. We’re not going to talk about her again, never!” He said firmly which shut Mia up.
- She stopped following him and watched him out of her sight.
- It’s been five years, almost six years, but Cassandra never left her memory.
- Her cute blushes, her loud laughter that always circled across the house.
- *
- Lucian collapsed on his large fluffy bed and then exhaled.
- These thoughts of the woman he had longed divorce were starting to mess with him.
- After they had just signed their divorce papers, he felt the huge burden that was relieved from his shoulder.
- He made himself believe he was better off without the woman.
- After all, to him,she was just just a decoration wife.
- The woman he had married because his grandfather wanted him to despite the fact that her father had just stolen a huge amount of money from him and then went off grid.
- Now, his grandfather was trying to make him believe that Cassandra didn’t cheat and that the picture he saw was fabricated.
- This was something that didn’t sit well with him, and he was going to keep denying it.
- The fact that something might have happened to her after she left the house was starting to bother him, and he hates that choking feeling.
