Chapter 2

  • “She’ll be miserable,”
  • Ugo thought for the hundredth time as she tried to get herself ready to meet Kenny’s fiancé. She has prepared the meals, everything and everyone was ready except her. She can’t seem to get herself to look happy when she knew that Kenny was going to be miserable all her life if she went through with the marriage. With a sigh, she looked for a Silver chain, looped it through the fake musgravite ring, the ring serving as a pendant and put it across her neck, the ring caressing the skin between her breasts.
  • For this occasion, she chose a black bridal satin tube gown, which rested on her knees. The dress hugged her body showing all her curves. It dipped down her chest showing cleavages, the 4inch olive green sandals matching her jewelries. She arranged her long strawberry blond hair and pin it up. It formed a tail which dropped to the right side of her shoulder.
  • Ugo had fewer occasions to dress up, so she didn’t have much in a way of dress or jewelries. She was a farm girl, familiar with tops and pants. Her makeup was light not that she needed makeup. She has a rare beauty that most ladies are envious of, with an hourglass figure. But to Ugo, her beauty never mattered to her. Most times she didn’t apply makeup but for tonight, to please her friend, she did.
  • Everyone was sited, waiting for Kenny to return with her man. Then a car honked,
  • “They’re here,” Alfred Hills, Kenny’s father whispered but before Ugo could agree, she heard her friend’s laughter.
  • She looked at Sarah’s anxious face, she’s Kenny’s mother, the only other person who dreaded this union as much as Ugo did or even more. Ugo smiled at the woman, trying to share her up. Then she quickly looked around one more time to make sure everything was in place. She couldn’t remember the last time Kenny and her family hosted anyone that’s not from their town how much more someone from Ultra City, the city for the rich and famous. Seeing that nothing was out of place, she sighed 5n relief and just then, the door opened to usher in the much anticipated visitors.
  • In unison they all looked as Kenny walked in with a proud smile. She ushered a guy in, he was handsome but there was nothing spectacular about the guy. Ugo was actually disappointed. Kenny has hyped this guy without mentioning his name, even the invitation she shared for the engagement party, his name was conspicuously missing. People had commented on it but Kenny assured them that his identity would be a surprised. Thus everyone including Ugo believed that her fiancé must be a celebrity.
  • “Everyone, this is Gerald, Gerald, my family” Kenny announced
  • Her parents stood to welcome the guy. Ugo looked from the father to the mother, Kenny’s father looked disappointed too. He was probably hoping to have some celebrity as a son in-law. However, Sarah looked relieved; she was probably thinking that this Gerald didn’t stand a chance with Ben. Thus there was still hope that Ben and Kenny will get back together. However, Ugo looked at her friend and noticed her mischievous smile, Kenny was up to something.
  • “And, finally, everyone meet,” Kenny gestured to the door and he walked in, smiling. “Dante Henchman. He is the CEO of Henchman Group of companies” Kenny announced with flourish
  • “That title belongs to my father, but I’m happy to finally meet you.” He said shaking hands with them starting with Kenny’s father.
  • Ugo could only stare. She knew others were staring too but not for the same reason. They were probably shocked that the son of one of the richest men in Ultra City was standing in their humble home but Ugo could not believe her eyes. Seven years, seven years of silence, wondering, and here he is, smiling, shaking everyone’s hand. ‘Dante Henchman?’ how possible was it that the man he met years ago was the same person standing before her right now. The man who had made her fall for him, took her V card and then abandoned her and disappeared with no trace.
  • Then he was standing before her smiling,
  • “This is my best friend Ugo,”
  • Kenny was saying, and he stretched his arm in a hand shake. Ugo glared at him as he shook her hand without recognition, then his eyes widened as he noticed the ring. He stared at it as if he couldn’t quite believe that it was real. He looked from the ring to her eyes and Ugo smirked at him, anger very visible on her face. If eyes were a gun, he will be dead already. He stepped back but didn’t say anything
  • “Welcome Dante Henchman, we have heard so much about you.”
  • Ugo said, sarcasm coating every word. Then she turned to others, “I bring the drinks” she said and walked out
