Chapter 53 A New Phase — Memories Gone

• Twelve hours later, I was still pacing around my room. I had walked the same spot so much that I could probably trace my footprints on the floor. Lior was asleep on my bed, curled into a small ball, his fingers still clenched in the blanket like he was afraid something would drag him away again. Every now and then he whimpered in his sleep, and my chest tightened each time.
• A child his age shouldn’t have witnessed what he saw. He shouldn’t have watched Cole lose control. He shouldn’t have seen his own father almost hurt him. He shouldn’t have heard my screams. It was too much, and I kept praying silently that it wouldn’t turn into something that would haunt him later.
