• “You did what?!” I thundered at him, but even to my own ears my voice sounded hollow, like all the strength had been sucked out of me. The anger was there, the rage was burning inside my chest, yet the fear and humiliation were heavier, pressing down on my lungs until it felt hard to breathe.
