Chapter 31 The Pain Of Having A Weakness

  • Warning: implied gangrape < Normal POV > Something seemed amiss. His brows wrinkled as he slit the struggling wolf with his claws and threw the body to the pile of corpses. The number of wolves in his vicinity had increased and more of his men were injured and teleported by Phineas to a safer hideout. The buildings of the marketplace crumbled from the explosions and they would have turned to ashes if it weren’t for the rain. He knew that their target was his head detached from his body as he was the only obstacle that wolves couldn't get their hands on the Hatiist followers. However, his instincts were telling him this wasn't the reason for their sudden infiltration. Another concern that bothered him was his heart throbbing painfully, even when he wasn't harmed by their predictable tactics. Varick pressed his heart, feeling the painful pang each time it beat, and he was… bothered by this new feeling. When the wolves noticed he was distracted, they exchanged looks and one of them lifted their arm for a signal. The sound of the cackling light flaring until there was a muffled explosion. Varick looked up and he saw something flying in his direction. He could see the triumphant smiles of the rogues before a cannonball exploded right before the Alpha leader. Smoke spread where he was and they couldn’t see a glimpse of his shadow. Not long after, the enemies started roaring in excitement as others with their wolf forms howled. “We did it!” The rogues cheered after the explosion. “We killed that damn war freak!” Surely, the Skollist leader wouldn’t escape death from a closer impact. What they didn’t realize, the Alpha leader had already faced these so-called advanced weapons in his recent battles. Varick landed right before them, breaking the ground as they all were petrified to see the monster alive. He escaped unscratched with the exception of his upper armor, torn into pieces. He glared at them as he turned to face the machinery he had seen so many times during battle. “Like this would kill me.” He did an axe-like kick to the cannon. It wasn’t enough, so he kicked it thrice until the cannon dropped and was torn apart. Now, their victory was cut short and they knew what would happen next. “FUCK! WE ARE DEALING A MONSTER!” They started running away from the Alpha Leader as he started wrecking havoc everywhere in his path. And despite his monstrous strength and his capability to survive from their weaponry, Varick’s heart throbbed in every painful beat and he knew it wasn’t normal. For some strange reason, his mind was telling him that it had to do with his mate, his wife: Rosaria. Was this what the wolves called a mating call? When their mate was hurting? This was the first time it happened to him. "Phineas." The spellcaster popped out after his call, and he bowed. "You called?" In Phineas' weary mind, he hoped it better be important when he almost lost all of his mana to save the remaining survivors. Varick unsheathed his sword and sliced his way with the swarm of wolves. "Are you sure Rosaria is in the house?" "You called me to ask that?" He sighed. "She's at the house. I am sure of that." A wolf jumped to Phineas, and he blasted a fire spell directly at the wolf. "Look, coming here weakened me so I couldn't teleport anymore." In fact, now it is the right time to transform into his wolf form as he couldn't use more of his magic. Varick glanced at his direction as he plunged a small dagger directly to the gray wolf's heart. "The mirror. I know you carry it around. See if the Luna is safe." He lazily took out the mirror. "I don't know if you ask out of concern or because you just need her." He shook his head. "But I know the Luna is perfectly sa—" Phineas's expression swiftly changed as his eyes glued to the mirror. Noticing his expression, Varick jumped and stabbed a nearby enemy before it could strike the high mage while he was idiotically standing there. He continued slicing and cutting off wolves without stopping. “Well?!” Varick bellowed. As he continued attacking more wolves coming to their deaths. “L-Lord Varick…” Phineas immediately cast a barrier—small enough for two. The wolves outside couldn’t penetrate, as they kept banging the transparent walls. It wouldn’t take long, as Phineas’ magic had already drained from his reckless spells. But it didn’t matter. He gave the mirror to the Alpha leader. Now, looking at the mirror, Varick could only see nothing but darkness. “What’s this supposed to mean?” “The magic mirror only showed the places where the user went. I’ve already been to your house in every room.” He grimaced as he took the mirror back. “I think your wife went somewhere I had never been to before.” Even if Rosaria did leave the house, he would have known her location from all around the wilderness. Unless she left the vicinity on her own. ‘That’s impossible,’ he thought. ‘She wouldn’t dare leave her own people here.’ Varick pondered for a while before he said. “Show the rooms of the house.” Phineas obeyed without hesitation and the mirror showed each room inside the Alpha Leader’s home: his bedroom, the living room, the dining room, the kitchen— Pairs of eyes widened at the sight of the intruders and the girl, Lenalee was standing before them. Varick gritted his teeth as his blood-soiled fist clenched tight. So, this was the plan, after all. “I wish I could teleport you there immediately…” He hid the mirror back in his robes. “But I ran out of magic to do so.” “No need.” Varick started stripping his damaged armor off until he was bare. His eyes showed animosity, and he growled, slowly morphing himself to his wolf. “Release the barrier.” ===== “Are you out of your mind, Heinfield?!” Lenalee yelled, her eyes dilated as her fangs showed, raring to change if her companion would do something atrocious. She grabbed on his shirt as she showed her deadliest glare. “What? Are you defending the Sun Devil’s cultist, lass?” He gave her a playful smirk as he took out a knife. “Lenalee, once a wolf decides to follow the Sun Devil—whether they’re a child, a woman, an infant—they deserve damnation. Is it not what the moon goddess wants?” “Don’t put words in her mouth! The Seers confirmed the Moon Goddess has no such claims!” She turned to the other man. “Release the boy, now!” “Tut-tut. Don’t test my patience, Lenalee.” He grabbed her chin as he lifted it up. “Do I have to remind you who took you in when the Red Moon Pack slaughtered your village and made you their personal entertainment?” Lenalee’s expression darkened as she clenched her fists. This only urged him to continue. “Our poor Lenalee. I couldn’t forget the blank expression you had on your face when we saw you. You were all beaten and bruised and took what was important to you by those so-called men you claimed were monsters.” “Stop it, t-this isn’t the right conversation, Reinfield,” she growled, gritting her teeth. “As I said, murdering a child isn’t right. You know I detested that.” “What murder are you talking about?” He laughed. “You didn’t hear me out, I just wanted to tear his skin while he screamed for his beloved Sister! Isn’t that hard to comprehend what I’ve said?” Roars of laughter circulated the room. “This is a waste of time,” Lenalee said, calmly. “You know that our goal is to get the Skollist Luna and send her to the Red Moon Pack, right? We can find her while the Alpha King’s distracted.” The man continued to observe her. “You know, I was wondering… are you sure she left the house?” “Without a doubt.” She glared at him straight in his face. “Then, why don't we just have quick entertainment before we move on?” He sneered as he turned to his men. “Give me the boy.” Lenalee’s eyes widened and the muffling voice from the floor was visibly heard before she stomped on it hard. “YOU CAN’T DO THIS!” Lenalee’s voice bellowed, loud enough or else they could hear Rosaria hidden underground. “THAT’S A FUCKING CHILD, YOU ASSHOLE!” She rushed to get the child but she was unfortunately grabbed by the other men. “OLEG! MARKUS! LET GO OF ME!” “Sheesh, women and their maternal instincts! It ruins the fun when they’re around,” he said as he rolled his eyes. Then he turned to the child who was shivering and frightened at the sight of the knife. “So scared, aren’t you lil twat? Why won’t you call your Sister if she truly loves you, that is.” They roared another fit of laughter as he grabbed the child’s arm as he threw wild fits to get away from him. “SISTER! SISTER! HELP!” The child screamed as the hands locked his arm, gripping it tight. Seeing the knife closer to his skin, his eyes showed mortification as tears streaming from his eyes. “No, no,no,” like a mantra, Lenalee’s head shook feverishly as she was forced to witness a sight she didn’t want anyone to see. She had to do something or else Rosaria would do something foolish as to show up just as what they wanted. This reminded her of the time when she was helpless as her mother was being violated in front of her, her younger brothers were being tortured by pulling off their nails as the men maniacally laughed at their suffering. This was a reminder of her past self. “ENOUGH!” With a hidden pocket knife from her dress, she stabbed it directly to Oleg’s eyes as he dropped her as she slowly morphing with her fangs baring before them. “I WON’T LET ANYONE SUFFER IN FRONT OF ME AGAIN!" “So, no matter what, you mustn’t go out, Lady Rosaria,” she muttered as she smiled before she transformed into her wolf form.
