Chapter 2261 Why Are They Kissing Again?

  • Lacey couldn’t fight back. With so many of them, she stood no chance, so she arched a brow. “Let’s go.” She climbed into their car. They slipped a blindfold over her eyes. All the way, it was just wind whistling, nothing else. The two men up front stayed silent. The one beside her said nothing, either. The air felt frozen solid. That bastard Wilbur—what was he doing in Avenport? Looked like he’d come just to grab her. Shadow Clan had stolen their business before. Both sides even threw down, and she’d been sent to fix it. After she went, they worked only with Shadow Clan, and Wilbur kept that grudge. Lacey wasn’t afraid of him. Sure, people on the streets said he was ruthless and vicious, but with her status, if he touched her, he wouldn’t have it easy afterward. After more than an hour, the car stopped. Everyone piled out. A moment later, her door finally opened. “Ms. Hunt, you can get out now.” Lacey pulled off the blindfold and glanced outside. Standing at the door was Mead, Wilbur’s most trusted right-hand man—his sharpest blade. She stepped out. It was a derelict building. These guys, seriously—finding a dump like this in the heart of Avenport? The yard was choked with weeds and littered with trash. Mead lifted a hand. “Ms. Hunt, please.” Lacey looked toward the ruin and smiled faintly. “Mr. Dalton sure picked a special spot. But he might’ve forgotten—I’m a woman. I’m not into filthy places.” Mead dipped his head. “The young master says places like this are good for scaring people.” He strode in first. Lacey knew their type—words smooth as silk, knives hidden underneath. None of them were good people. Then again, neither was she. Lacey didn’t flinch. She followed them in. The place was exactly what she expected—filthy and busted up. It had clearly been abandoned for ages. The air reeked of damp earth and mold. Lacey raised a hand, covering her nose. Not that she was being precious. In their line of work, she’d seen every kind of hellhole. Back at Shadow Clan, she’d trained with Bertram and the other two. They’d spent weeks in places like this—survive or get wiped. One slip, you got ambushed and eliminated. Of course, they’d all made it to the end. None of them had ever been knocked out. That’s why they were Shadow Clan’s elite. On the second floor, Mead glanced at the room in the very back. The door stood open. A tall man’s silhouette was clear, and he was pinning down a gorgeous woman, looking like they were mid-kiss. Mead’s face darkened hard. He said coolly, “Ms. Hunt, please wait a moment.” He moved fast, parking himself at the doorway—bold enough to break up Wilbur’s make-out session. No doubt, the guy had guts. “Young master, Ms. Hunt is here.” The man finally let the woman go, turned, and came out, shutting the door behind him. His voice went cold. “Send her back later. Don’t let her follow me again.” Mead frowned and lowered his voice. “Young master, why are you with her again? Think about it—wasn’t her con bad enough last time?” Their young master was unreal. That woman had scammed him so hard, got their brothers killed, and even enraged the boss to death. Weren’t those debts meant for her? How come the minute they met, they were kissing again? Was the young master about to fall for it twice? Wilbur shot him a glare, and Mead ducked his head, spooked. “She kissed me. I can damn well kiss her back, can’t I? She’s a woman. I’m a man. I get the upper hand. Cut the crap—I won’t fall for it again.”
