• I give my niece a ride
• It was 10:00 P.M. on Saturday night when the phone rang. We, or rather my wife, were watching a real tearjerker on cable. I was in the same room but my mind had drifted off when the sound of the phone brought me back to reality. I got up to answer the phone while my wife looked up with a mixture of annoyance and concern on her still pretty face. I didn’t recognize the number from the caller i.d.
• “Hello” I said into the receiver. I could hear crowd noise on the other end of the line.
