- Westridge Hall turned out to be exactly what I'd expected. Modern architecture trying too hard to look casual, floor-to-ceiling windows showing off mountain views, and enough security features to make it clear that supernatural teenagers needed supervision.
- My room was on the third floor, corner unit with a view of the forest. Two beds, two desks, a shared bathroom. My roommate's stuff was already unpacked. Expensive laptop, textbooks arranged by size, family photos showing a Beta family from somewhere sunny. The cologne lingering in the air was expensive too—something citrus and woody that probably cost more than my entire wardrobe.
- I dropped my duffel on the empty bed and checked my phone. One message from Aunt Sarah: Be good. Make your mother proud.
