- Every face in the hall was on me, and every single one of them was wearing a different expression. There were five men in the open hall I entered, but I was sure there were a lot more all around, hiding in the shadows and patrolling the grounds.
- My father was still whimpering on the ground, maybe anticipating even more trouble, because I had intervened. He threw me glances in between, each time they held a different emotion, which confused me. I chose to believe it was because of the difficult position we were in.
