- My espresso was untouched. Gabe had placed it there minutes ago, without expecting a reaction. He had since returned to the stack of documents on my desk, looking through them in silence. I sat still, fingers steepled against my chin, eyes fixed on the dark surface of the cup.
- After my last interaction with my principessa, I needed space to cool down. I had pushed too far. Said the wrong things. Or not. This woman confused the hell out of me.
