• The governor, Kane Hermes. Malik wants to kill the governor of Indiana. I hadn’t gotten over the shock of the bombshell he dropped minutes ago. As I changed into a sundress so he could explain his plans to Waylen and me together to avoid repeating himself, all I could think was: He’s crazy.
• “I don’t think you understand how powerful the governor is,” I told Malik. He held the jeans I gifted him in one hand and an ironed pants in another. I pointed at the jeans. He laughed but disappeared into the closet, returning in the jeans and a blazer. This man right there, was my favorite item on the menu. “The governor has security.”
