Chapter 5 None Of Your Business

  • As soon as Zora returned home, our family fell apart.
  • When she heard about our divorce from Andrew, she was ecstatic. Then, without hesitation, she started speaking poorly about me in the living room.
  • “Dad, only a man like you could tolerate a woman like Mom. All she ever does is dance and ignore the family. She's selfish, only caring about her superficial vanity and completely ignoring the feelings of others. She couldn't keep dancing herself, but she insisted that I continue. If that's not vanity, then what is?”
  • My beloved daughter firmly believed that my supervision of her dancing was out of vanity, and I couldn't help but laugh.
  • The honors I had received from dancing earlier in life were enough to feed my vanity for a lifetime. Was I supposed to feel proud because of her pathetic dancing skills?
  • The moment she saw me, her expression changed instantly.
  • “Mom, are you going to divorce Dad? Can you let go of such an amazing man like him?”
  • Her worried expression made it seem as if she was genuinely concerned about me facing any losses. But what if she discovered her father's illegitimate daughter out there?
  • I chuckled softly and said, “Why not? Wouldn't you be the happiest if your father and I got divorced?”
  • Her expression quickly shifted, and she hurriedly defended herself, “Why would I be? Every child longs for a stable family. Of course, I wouldn't want you and Dad to get divorced! Besides, I'm about to get married myself. How could I possibly wish for your divorce?”
  • My beloved daughter was getting married, and yet, as her mother, I was unaware.
  • I looked up at Andrew, who nervously lowered his gaze.
  • “Fine then, I won't be there when you get married. Your father, as your guardian and your natal family, is the most suitable person to be there!”
  • Seeing my indifferent tone, my daughter quickly came over and tightly held my hand. She said, “You have to attend my wedding. You raised me. How could you not be there?”
  • After a moment, she spoke again, with a hint of embarrassment in her tone. “We need to keep this house for my future marital home.”
  • It was all for my house after all.
  • “Impossible! This house was mine before I even married your father. Why should I give it to you?”
  • I immediately shattered her fanciful illusions.
  • Seeing my unwavering determination, she began to throw a tantrum. “Why can't I have it? You still have the house Granny left you in the northern district. I'm your only daughter. Why wouldn't you give me this house?”
  • She wasn't worthy of it.
  • Andrew chimed in, “Isn't the whole reason you're working so hard and earning money through your performances to provide a better life for Zora? What's wrong with giving her a house?”
  • “Then you give it to her.”
  • My retort silenced Andrew instantly.
  • “Zora, this is non-negotiable!”
  • Zora was taken aback by my ruthlessness. In her outrage, she declared, “Then I will sever our mother-daughter relationship! From now on, my affairs are none of your business!”
  • Having said that, she stormed out of the house, slamming the door behind her.
  • It was at that moment that I realized just how selfish my daughter truly was. Whenever faced with tasks she didn't enjoy, she would simply walk away. And if anyone challenged her or disagreed with her opinions, she would erupt unpredictably.
  • Well, severing our mother-daughter relationship was exactly what I wanted as well.
