Chapter 6 Married In A Month
- ELISA'S POV
- A smile settled on my lips the moment I got the message that Derrick has been fired.
- I should have stuck around to see his expression, what a shameless man.
- Shaking my head as I recollected our encounter, I turned off my car, and got down immediately spotting a maid standing at the entrance of the house with my mother pacing about looking worried.
- Looks like she had disappeared on purpose this morning just so I won't suspect a thing.
- I should pretend to be mad for a while.
- "Elisa." My mother called out for me in a shaky voice but I just walked past her wearing a fake frown on my face.
- Dad was sitting in the parlour, although the old man never seems to show emotions, after spending years with him, I could tell he was nervous and impatient.
- Did my remarriage really bother them that much?
- Suddenly, my nose felt slightly itchy as the urge to cry overwhelmed me.
- These people has managed to meet my every needs since I was a child only for me to get older and run away with a good for nothing man.
- Despite the fact that they didn't even support the marriage in the first place they still gave me a way out by making me a director, just so I'll be able to support myself.
- I wonder how they felt when I quit my job as well.
- I owed them a debt. From now on, I will live my best life just to put their mind at ease.
- "Eli, are you okay?" My mother asked carefully, staring at me with worry in her eyes.
- "I'm fine mom." I replied coldly, rolling my eyes, I wasn't really mad at her, this is just to draw the line.
- "Damon didn't do anything rash did he?" My father's cold voice questioned.
- Guess the old man was in on it too, tch.
- "He didn't do anything, we plan to get married, there's no way he would hurt his fiancee after all." I said casually and my mom gasped covering her mouth.
- "Oh my God." She exclaimed before squealing and going over to dad, pulling him by the arm.
- "Our daughter is back to her senses." Well, ouch.
- Regardless of her words I smiled a bit watching their interaction, the small smile my dad gave to her before patting her hair gently.
- I wonder how they got together, I won't be surprised if my father kidnapped mom or something, it is very difficult to imagine him doing romantic stuff.
- "I'll be in my room if you need me." I announced ready to leave when Dad called me to a halt.
- "You are sure about the marriage?" He asked while I nodded in response.
- "Good, I'll introduce you to the board members by Monday, make sure you're prepared, your mom will prepare for a ball and engagement Party next weekend."
- I felt pleased with myself hearing dad's words, finally, I get the company.
- "A ball? Hope I won't be surprised with another blind date?" I teased while mom hurriedly shook her head.
- "It's a real ball." She explained making me giggle a bit, even dad looked at her with an adoring look, she's just so cute.
- "Errm, Eli, has your lawyer sent the divorce papers?" Mother asked carefully causing me to sigh.
- Arrgh, how did I forget about that? I glanced at dad to notice the frown on his face, I can't let a stupid mistake in the past prevent me from getting the company.
- "I will sort everything out, even if it's to go there myself." I explained, I really don't understand why Derrick's mother refused to take in the papers, I really don't want to deal with those people anymore.
- "Just do your best to solve it, a married woman can't remarry without a divorce." Dad stated before leaving, shoot, I have to solve this before dad changes his mind.
- After his announcement tomorrow, I'll go to Derrick's home and submit the divorce papers myself.
- I need to get it signed by hook or crook, nothing is stopping me.
- Massaging my forehead, I went to room and collapsed on the bed when my phone buzzed.
- It was Damon.
- A smile formed on my face, seeing his message, I'm so stupid, I let such a good friend go just because of a man.
- Before I could type out my reply, Damon's name flashed on the screen indicating he is calling me.
- "Hello." I greeted in a cool manner.
- "Hey, you didn't reply my message." Oh, did I waste that much time lost in my thoughts? I checked the time he sent the message and the time now.
- I rolled my eyes seeing I just delayed by a minute.
- "I was about to." I stated simply.
- Silence reigned for a bit, I could even hear him breathing through the phone.
- Just as I was about to ask what happened, he spoke up.
- "Your mom told me the engagement banquet is next weekend." Damon explained making my eye twitch, that woman sure is quick when it comes to things like this.
- "Yes, are you available? I could tell her to reschedule." I inquired, I know my family is too hasty to get me married but I hope they don't forget it takes two to tango.
- "I should be free, I don't mind the rush, I want us to get married within a month anyways." Damon stated leaving me stunned.
- He is in that much hurry to get the inheritance then? It must mean a lot to him I guess.
- "Sure, I see no problem with that." I answered, shrugging my shoulders even if he couldn't see me.
- "And Derrick?" He asked, making me sigh.
- "I'll take care of everything including the divorce, there's no need to worry." I said in a calm voice.
- "Good." With that he cut the call, I stared at my phone before sneering and tossing it aside.
- That man is just like my dad, they both only speak of necessities and then boom, go silent, they've passed their message so they don't care anymore.
- He probably called to make sure the deal his getting is thoroughly dealt with.
- If that's the case, I must fulfill my part and get Derrick to sign that divorce papers no matter what.
