Chapter 5 Daughter

  • Elisa's POV
  • Seeing Derrick standing there with his hand wrapped around his mistress waist made me remember past grievances.
  • "Why do you need to know?" I questioned back calmly, ready to leave with Damon when Derrick's snort held me back.
  • "You seem to have not gotten over me yet, stalking me like this is uncalled for, I will warn you to stop or I'll file a restraining order against you." Derrick heaved making me sigh inwardly.
  • What exactly did I see in this clueless fool that I fell for him.
  • "Why don't you sign the divorce papers first." I stated crossing my arms in displeasure.
  • I had just proposed a marriage deal to Damon, it's best I sort out the divorce issue quickly enough.
  • "Divorce? You? Divorce me?" Derrick laughed, unable to believe my words, I'm pretty sure I said it yesterday.
  • "You have clung to me for some years now, how do you intend to survive on your own without a job." He jested before pushing his mistress forward.
  • "My beautiful Mira here is the cousin to Damon Thorne, while you are nothing, maybe if you can kowtow to us I'll let her put in a good word for you." Derrick bragged.
  • I glanced at Mira, who gently hit Derrick indicating he should stop, and then thought how their relationship would last, a proud man like himself would hardly tolerate any woman being above him, strange.
  • "I don't have any cousin as such." Damon spoke up bringing my mind back to the matter.
  • I had totally forgotten he is present, but now that he said it, my eyes trailed to Mira, I don't think I've seen her in any of the Thorne's family gathering.
  • "Is he Damon?" Derrick asked skeptically, eyeing Damon as if trying to figure him out.
  • "Well maybe if you had discerning eyes and a functioning brain you would have noticed since." I murmured to myself.
  • I hated that this meeting was dragging too long, and also Damon has to see what my sorry self fought for in the past.
  • "Don't impersonate my cousin!" Mira suddenly yelled out with a flushed face.
  • Ouu, someone got a secret to keep.
  • "Oh?" Damon just asked coldly raising his brows, cause me to giggle a bit, his aura is so intimidating.
  • "Yes... Cousin is currently abroad." Mira stuttered, completely overshadowed by Damon's overwhelming aura.
  • Getting the confirmation he needed, Derrick instantly raised his chin sneering.
  • "You came here to stalk me and found an impersonator after running a background check? How obsessed can you be? You should be grateful that Mira is bearing the child you can never have."
  • Hearing his words, my heart suddenly dropped, no one in my circle knew of my infertility, now, this goddamn fool blurted it out in front of my prospective marriage partner.
  • What if Damon decides not to marry me again or worst spread the news? That way I won't ever get married and dad won't give me the CEO position, this is bad, I must become CEO at all cost.
  • "Well, that doesn't change the fact you cheated, think, say, and believe whatever you like you'll forever remain a dog barking." I said with a shrug, pushing my emotions to the deepest part of my mind.
  • "Let's go." I told Damon and then we walked off together, I didn't want to deal with that idiot anymore.
  • "Are you alright?" Damon asked as he opened the car door for me while I forced a smile at him, no matter how hard I tried to push those thoughts behind, the fact that I might never be a mother or hold my flesh and blood in my arms left a dull ache in my heart.
  • "I'm fine, I'll understand if you want to break off the marriage." I muttered prepared to enter my car when Damon pulled my arm, staring right into my eyes with an intense gaze.
  • "It's a marriage of mutual benefits, children are not part of the deal, I will not touch you unless required for the business deal." He stated sternly making me smile a little.
  • I had forgotten how Damon was strict when it comes to business rules and condition, guess I was worried for nothing, in the end, I might have chosen the right marriage partner after all.
  • "Okay then, thank you, I look forward to doing business with you."
  • As I said that, a hint of displeasure flashed Damon's eyes but I was probably mistaken right? Why will he be displeased.
  • "I'll take my leave now." I got into my car and sped off, getting a call from the lawyer I sent.
  • He narrated how Derrick's mother had thrown a tantrum about my divorce and didn't even let him drop the papers, I don't get it, weren't the same people that hated me? Why won't his mother collect the divorce papers? Shouldn't she be the most eager to do so?
  • This is all so confusing, maybe I should press harder.
  • DERRICK'S POV
  • I watched Elisa and that imposter leave making me grit my teeth in anger.
  • Why isn't she pleading me but instead speaking of divorce? Shouldn't she beg me not to leave her and offer to take care of the child?
  • The only reason why I'm with Mira is because of her connection anyway, once I'm done using her, I'll throw her away, Elisa should be grateful for me doing this.
  • "The Gilbert family has announced the return of their daughter into the business world and her impending marriage..." I stared at the TV in contemplation, attending this kind of event would be a jackpot.
  • "Mira, is your cousin going to attend? Is there a way we could tag along? It would be a great opportunity for me, maybe I could land a better paying job and take care of our baby properly." I persuaded in a soft voice and she smiled at me sweetly making my heart skip a beat.
  • Compared to Elisa's cold face, Mira sure knows how to keep things interesting, even on bed.
  • "I'll talk to him and see what I can do." She said sweetly making me hug her.
  • "When I'm very rich you'll be the queen of the whole city." I said enthusiastically, picking her up and twirling her round.
  • She laughed excitedly hitting my shoulder trying to tell me to stop, I did and she flicked my forehead.
  • "Alright let's go, the baby is probably very hungry." She pointed out with a pout making me smile and rub my hand over her belly, regardless of my feelings this child is still mine.
  • A ding from my phone snapped me out of my thoughts, and with my smile still on I checked my notification only for my heart to sink.
  • "Honey what's wrong? You look so pale." Mira asked worriedly but I was too distraught to speak to her, I was fired? Why? For what misconduct?
  • The reason they are giving here doesn't at all seem reasonable.
