Chapter 6 – Girl, I'm Sorry For You
- Isadora’s POV
- As soon as I got into the passenger seat, I saw Kael slip in his car and drove away out of the corner of my eye.
- As the car moved forward, I couldn’t help but feel a strange sense of unreality as I watched the trees rush past outside. I had truly cut off all ties with Kael, and from now on, I no longer had any connection with my destined mate.
- “What are you thinking about, sis?”
- I snapped out of my thoughts and smiled at Caleb. “Nothing much.”
- It was then that I noticed Caleb’s profile—his sharp, three-dimensional features carried a touch of mixed-race charm.
- Kael was a famous heir of the clan, who had conquered many women with his charisma at a young age. But Caleb was no less—broad-shouldered, slim-waisted, and long-legged, he could easily rival international supermodels.
- “Why did you choose the modeling industry?” I had thought that, with his good grades, he would pursue a career in scientific research.
- “I just tried out a modeling audition back then, and unexpectedly, I entered the industry from there.” A hint of seriousness crossed his face. “Sis, do you not like the modeling world?”
- I shook my head and smiled. “Not really. As long as you succeed and shine in your own field, it’s all the same.”
- Finally, Caleb’s eyes lit up with a smile. He smoothly pressed the brakes. “We’re here, sis.”
- In front of us was a quaint two-story cottage. An old man with white hair sat on a wicker chair, sipping tea.
- The old man turned around and gave me a slight smile. “Girl.”
- I froze, my face filling with disbelief. The man before me was my long-lost grandfather.
- Grandpa sighed. “I know all about your situation. I’m sorry for what you’ve been through.”
- Suddenly, my eyes welled with tears, and I threw myself into his arms, finally releasing the grievances in my heart. “Grandpa, where have you been all these years?”
- Six years ago, during the clan war, the critical defense map of Moonveil Pack had been stolen, with evidence pointing to my father. In the end, not only was my father impeached by the elders from his alpha position, but he also had to face the punishment of being trapped in the ancestral land to atone to the moon goddess.
- Later, my stepmother and stepsister ran away with all of our family’s assets, and my father, depressed, ended his own life there.
- Grandpa continued, “I’ve been investigating the theft of the Moonveil Pack’s defense map all these years and discovered it was connected to the Umbraclaw Pack. Your father was made a scapegoat.”
- The Umbraclaw Pack was a long-established werewolf pack in Silverhollow, second only to the Nightfang Pack. Its Alpha, Richard Cooper, happened to be Freya’s father.
- As I pondered his words, my grandfather handed me a document. “Girl, this is fifty-one percent of OceanGate Group, the last company belonging to our Moonveil Pack. Don’t ask me how I got it—I know you need it.”
- I looked deeply into my grandfather’s weathered face, pursed my lips, and said solemnly, “I will find the person who framed my father, prove his innocence, and not let you down.”
- Kael’s POV
- When I got back home, my mother was directing the servants to erase all traces of Isadora’s presence, throwing away the sheets she had slept on, the slippers she had worn, the aprons she had used, and even the plates and cutlery she had eaten with.
- I frowned. “What are you doing?”
- Mother snorted. “Why keep that woman’s things? Freya is going to be the Luna of Nightfang Pack.”
- She suddenly leaned in and whispered, “Kael, you’ve severed the destined link with her. I’ll tell you this, everything now belongs to Nightfang Pack. She won’t get a penny!”
- I replied calmly, “She didn’t ask for anything.”
- But my mother scoffed in disbelief. “Impossible! If she didn’t get money, how else could she afford to keep a lover on the side?”
- When my mother mentioned Isadora and that so-called lover, I remembered seeing a man whispering to her as I left the house earlier.
- Isadora had been smiling so brightly, her eyes sparkling.
- She had never smiled like that after our mating.
- Back then, she would chatter endlessly in my ear about trivial matters, and every time she looked at me, there was caution in her eyes.
- I hadn’t liked it. In fact, I had found it annoying.
- But now, after severing the destined link, she seemed like a completely different person—radiating a dazzling light from the inside out.
- Was it all because of that man?
- My temples throbbed, and I didn’t want to argue with my mother anymore. I instructed my beta to bring the separation agreement to Isadora.
- Upstairs, Freya was sitting by the window, reading a book.
- She looked up and smiled softly at me. “You’re back.”
- Truly my destined mate, her serene smile calmed the irritation in my heart.
- “Feeling better?”
- “Thank goodness. It was boring being cooped up in the room, so I grabbed a book to pass the time.” Freya gently placed the book on the bedside table and stood, wrapping her arms around my waist from behind. “Kael, do you regret breaking the destined bond with her?”
- “What’s there to regret? She wasn’t my destined mate, and besides, she cheated first.”
- I turned around and embraced her, breathing in her scent. “Let’s not talk about her anymore. The most important thing right now is your health. Uncle Cooper is hosting a banquet for you next month, so you need to get better soon.”
- Freya blinked and smiled. “Got it.”
