Chapter 4 Sister, Here We Meet Again
- Isadora’s POV
- Back in the car again, I had calmed myself down, feeling confident without the burden of a destined mate.
- Zane chuckled. “There are some good-looking people at Neon Nights Bar today. Want to go check it out?”
- Neon Nights Bar was the most popular entertainment spot in Silverhollow, and it used to be our favorite place to hang out. We had spent a lot of money there. But ever since I mated, I hadn’t been back.
- Now, hearing that familiar name, I couldn’t help but be speechless. “Are you kidding? I just got out of a relationship.”
- Zane winked, a smirk playing on his lips. “Actually, there’s someone who wants to see you.”
- “Who?”
- “You know this person. You’ll find out when you get there.”
- I racked my brain, trying to figure it out, but I had no clue. I just nodded. “Okay.”
- Zane had a private room at Neon Nights Bar. As we entered, the man on the sofa stood up and looked over.
- He was in his early twenties, tall, with sharp features and piercing eyes.
- “Sis, here we meet again.”
- The young werewolf in front of me seemed familiar, but I couldn’t remember where I had seen him before.
- “Don’t you remember? Six years ago, you and your dad saved a young werewolf who was badly injured by a rogue in Eldervale, remember?”
- With Zane’s reminder, it all came back to me.
- It was true. After my father and I saved that young werewolf, we had supported him financially for his living expenses and education.
- I looked at him carefully and tentatively asked, “Are you… Caleb?”
- The sharp features of the young man softened, and a charming smile appeared on his face. “Yes, it’s me.”
- Caleb was now a popular model, no longer part of the poor pack from the mountains, but a celebrity frequently featured in Silverhollow Magazine.
- I used to care only about Nightfang Pack and paid little attention to the entertainment world. But now, thinking about how the poor boy who once followed me around had become a successful model, I felt both relieved and nostalgic.
- After chatting for a while, as we were about to leave, Caleb suddenly pulled me into his arms. I looked up in surprise, only to see a green bottle flying toward my head.
- It was then that I realized he was trying to shield me from it.
- I heard a loud clang as the bottle smashed against his back.
- “Are you okay, sis?” He let go of me and looked at me with concern.
- I was very grateful and quickly checked his back. Luckily, Caleb wasn’t hurt, and I breathed a sigh of relief.
- However, another bottle seemed to have a personal vendetta against me, as it flew straight toward my head. I frowned and looked in the direction it had come from.
- To my surprise, it was Ryder, angrily glaring at me with his gang of friends by his side.
- “You bitch! How dare you cheat on my brother behind his back!”
- Zane rolled up his sleeves, ready to step forward. “Hey! This kid needs a beating.”
- I grabbed Zane’s arm. “I got this.”
- I walked up to Ryder step by step.
- But Ryder just sneered and said coldly, “The bottle didn’t even hit you!”
- I looked at him calmly. “There are some things I’ve been wanting to tell you for a long time.”
- “What?”
- “Do you know how annoying you are? I was your brother’s mate for six years, but you never once called me Luna. You were always bossing me around or being disrespectful. You’ve been in school for seventeen years, but it seems like all that knowledge went to waste.”
- Ryder’s face twisted in anger. “You…”
- “Shut up,” I cut him off sharply, showing my wolf claws. “I’ve severed the mate bond with your brother. I have no ties to the Nightfang Pack anymore. Who I’m with is my choice, and you have no right to question it. If you continue to provoke me, don’t blame me for leaving my mark on your face with my claws.”
- Ryder’s face turned red, but he was speechless.
- Hmph, just a brat.
- I ignored him and walked away.
- After saying goodbye to Zane and Caleb, I returned to my father’s old house. The house was dusty, clearly untouched for a long time. I put on an apron and started cleaning.
- Under the sofa, I found the wedding photo with Kael. I was smiling brightly in the picture, while Kael looked cold and impatient. Next to it were the notes I had written — a diary filled with Kael’s likes, dislikes, and hobbies.
- Once, all my thoughts had been focused on him. I tried my best to hold on to that hard-won marriage, but reality had slapped me in the face.
- Thinking about it now, my nose tingled. I quickly lifted my head, forcing myself not to cry. I didn’t want to shed tears for that man again.
- Just then, a text message interrupted me. When I picked up the phone, it was from Caleb.
- Sis, you helped me six years ago. Now let me help you. Let go and do what you need to do. I’ve got your back.
- A warm feeling surged in my heart.
- Although Caleb genuinely wanted to repay me, I didn’t want to rely on anyone. Since mating with Kael, I had suppressed all my temper and personality to be a submissive “yes-woman,” all for the sake of being a good Luna for the Nightfang Pack.
- Now, I no longer wanted to sacrifice myself.
- I picked up the phone and dialed the number.
- “Isadora, what do you want now?” Kael’s indifferent voice came from the other end.
- My voice remained steady, unaffected by his tone. He was a stranger to me now. “Tomorrow is the full moon. Go to the Nightfang Pack’s altar to complete the unbinding ceremony. It’s a matter of respect for the elders.”
- “You—”
- Before he could finish, I hung up, unwilling to hear another word.
