  • I burst into my room, slamming the door behind me with a muffled thud. My chest heaved, each breath ragged and desperate. Sweat beaded on my forehead, trickling down my temples as I pressed my back against the cold wooden surface. The hallway remained silent, but the silence felt charged, electric with potential danger. Shadows of familiar objects - my dresser, the old bookshelf, the chair where clothes perpetually draped - seemed to shift and whisper. It was like everything in my room had something to say to me.
