Chapter 4 The Perfect Trap for Betrayal
- Over the next few days, I made frequent trips to visit Peter. I cooked meals for him, took care of him and did everything I could to show my filial devotion. Peter was thrilled and, in a generous gesture, handed me a bank card.
- Katie was standing nearby, and she looked absolutely furious.
- In my previous life, because of my resentment over Grandma’s death, I had always kept Peter at arm’s length. Whenever he tried to give me money, I coldly rejected him. This created the perfect opportunity for Katie to sow discord, leading to me cutting ties with Peter. In the end, she and Nathan took full advantage, inheriting all of Peter’s assets. But in this life, I wouldn’t let them succeed.
- Soon, Saturday arrived, it was the day Katie and Nathan had planned their secret meeting.
- That evening, Nathan said to me, "Celine, there’s something urgent at the company. I need to go handle it."
- I looked at him, taking in his tailored suit, perfectly styled hair, and the faint scent of cologne. It was obvious he was headed to see Katie.
- Feigning indifference, I nodded. “Alright, come home early.”
- As soon as Nathan left, I picked up my phone and called the reporter I had contacted earlier in the week. Then, I turned on the TV and waited silently for the drama to unfold.
- Three hours later, the reporter sent me a video. It showed a naked couple tangled together being carried into an ambulance.
- A smirk crept across my lips. Those two couldn’t resist their urges, just as I’d expected.
- Nathan would never have imagined that days earlier, I had replaced the bottle of lubricant in the car with industrial-strength glue.
- Nathan didn’t come home that night. The next morning, a story hit Twitter’s trending topics. The headline read, "Couple’s Car Encounter Goes Wrong—Mistakes Glue for Lubricant, Leading to Hospitalization." Beneath the headline was a pixelated photo.
- When I saw the news, I went to the storage room and opened a bottle of red wine. Nathan, Katie, this is just the beginning.
- It wasn’t until the third night that Nathan finally came home. His face was pale, and he was limping.
- When he saw me sitting on the sofa, he forced a weak smile. "Celine, I’m sorry. The company has been really busy these past few days."
- I gave him a gentle smile, pretending to be understanding. "It’s alright, honey. You’ve been working so hard."
- For the next two months, Nathan claimed he was overwhelmed with work and moved into the study to sleep. I didn’t confront him. Instead, I quietly waited for the right moment to strike.
- Then one day, Katie called me. "Celine, Peter said he wants to buy me a house. I’ve picked out a seaside villa. If you’re free tomorrow, come with Nathan to join Peter and me for the signing." Her tone was dripping with arrogance and provocation.
- My expression turned cold as I replied in an even tone, "Alright," and hung up the phone.
- I sneered inwardly. Katie, let’s see how long you can stay smug. Tomorrow afternoon, the real show begins.
