Chapter 3 Plotting My Revenge

  • Nathan, Katie, and I were college classmates. I wasn’t attractive, I was dark-skinned, overweight, and ignored by the prettier girls in my dorm. Katie, who lived next door, stood out with her sweet and adorable looks and was even crowned the campus belle.
  • Surprisingly, she often chose to spend time with me. I was deeply touched by her rare gesture of friendship and often bought her expensive gifts. Whenever we went out to eat or have fun, I would always pay.
  • Later, Nathan joined us, and the three of us became a popular sight on campus. A handsome man, a beautiful girl, and someone like me, unattractive by comparison, naturally drew attention.
  • Rumors spread that Nathan was pursuing Katie, but unexpectedly, in our senior year, Nathan publicly confessed his love for me in the auditorium.
  • I can still recall him holding a bouquet, reciting vows and sweet promises. In my previous life, I was so swept away by his gentleness that I fell into his trap and met a tragic end. But this time, I wouldn’t let myself be deceived again.
  • Without revealing my thoughts, I quietly placed the bottle in the storage compartment beside me.
  • On the way home, I stayed completely silent.
  • As we neared the house, Nathan glanced at me a few times and asked, "Celine, you’re acting strange today. At Grandpa’s house, were you saying those things on purpose? You’re not usually like that."
  • I shot him a cold glance. "No, I genuinely wish Katie well."
  • Nathan looked like he wanted to say more, but I interrupted, "I’m a bit tired today. Let’s leave it."
  • He hesitated, then reached out to pat my head. "Alright, get some rest. I’ll head to the office to handle some work."
  • "Okay."
  • After we got married, Nathan and I co-founded a software company. I funded everything from the start. Nathan’s family wasn’t well-off, but back then, I thought his kindness was all that mattered. Even our wedding house and car came from my family.
  • Only now did I realize that a man’s kindness could be completely fabricated.
  • When I got home, I locked myself in the study and carefully planned my next steps. After finalizing the plan, I searched for surveillance equipment on my phone.
  • Yes, my first move was to install cameras in the house and the car.
  • I hired a professional technician, and after an afternoon of work, the cameras were set up. They were discreetly placed, and Nathan likely wouldn’t notice them.
  • That evening, Nathan came home from work. "Celine, did you make all this food?"
  • I had prepared a lavish dinner, much more elaborate than usual, and Nathan was clearly surprised.
  • "Yes, ever since you told me not to go to the office, I’ve had free time at home. I figured I’d learn to cook something nice for you."
  • I handed him a bowl of sweet rice wine dumplings and asked the housekeeper to pour some red wine.
  • "Celine, you’re amazing. From now on, just stay home and cook for me. Let me handle everything at the company," Nathan said, his face filled with gratitude as he drank the sweet soup. By the end of the meal, he had also finished a glass of red wine.
  • Later that night, Nathan lay unconscious on the bed. Reaching into his pocket, I pulled out his phone. I had added a small amount of sleeping pills to his food, and with the wine, he was now in a deep sleep.
  • I opened his WhatsApp and searched for "Katie," but her name didn’t appear in the contacts. I then searched for "darling" in the messages, and a list of chats popped up.
  • It didn’t take much effort to find Katie’s second account. Scanning through their chats, I saw explicit photos and videos. The only useful detail I found was their plan to have dinner together next Saturday.
  • I used my phone to record the evidence of their affair, preparing for the right time to use it. As I finished, I thought about the bottle of lubricant in the car. A daring plan began forming in my mind.
