Chapter 8 A Date

  • The event that had transpired last night felt like a dream. When Elara jolted awake this morning, everything still felt so surreal. She couldn’t help but remember the outstanding facial features of a certain man.
  • Not even in her wildest dreams before that she would be entangled with him in this life.
  • She held her chest, suddenly feeling a deep regret. Was she too rash and reckless last night? Had she jumped on his pirate ship too fast?
  • It seemed to be the case.
  • Yet, the text on her phone proved to her that everything was real. She really made an agreement with Ezra Miller to be his contract girlfriend.
  • She couldn’t help but scratch her head, exhaling. Maybe it wasn’t too bad. When she remembered certain things in her life, she narrowed her eyes. It shouldn’t be too bad, indeed.
  • Eventually, she might have to confront the upper society.
  • She was sure that those people who had blocked her in the entertainment industry came from high social class. Their purpose was unclear, but no matter what, she had to uncover it. Whether it was personally directed toward her or not.
  • When she heard Eleanor calling her name, she rolled her eyes and went out of her bed.
  • ***
  • It was the next day when the agreed time of the date came. She no longer had feelings for Mason, so everything felt so refreshing.
  • The date, of course, consisted of three people.
  • She looked like the third-wheel in this group of three people. Eleanor was sitting beside Mason, donning in an expensive, glamorous blue dress. Such a contrast to her simple floral dress.
  • “I just remembered that you went to find a job some days ago, sister. Did you manage to find it?” Eleanor opened the conversation. The two finally no longer excluded her from the conversation.
  • Elara, who was enjoying her meal, raised her head. Oh, here it comes, the drama self-directed by Eleanor.
  • She merely shook her head and continued eating. The action seemed to provoke Eleanor as she deliberately leaned further on Mason. “You didn’t find it? What a pity. I just got offered a role. Although it’s just a minor role, it’s still good. You haven’t even got a role yet, sister? I will keep a lookout for you if some projects are looking for a role that is suitable for you.”
  • The tone was generous, and Mason’s eyes flickered, immediately praising her. “Eleanor is such a wonderful sister.”
  • He shifted his attention to Elara and said with a frown, “You shouldn’t work in those shabby places. As a waitress or dishwasher on top of that. Your hands always stink when you return.”
  • The tone was displeased, as if having Elara working in those places had greatly humiliated him as his fiancee.
  • She merely raised her eyebrows. “Then I will wait for a project from my sister. I don’t know that your talent is so favored by some directors now.”
  • Lowering her head, she hid the swirling emotion in her eyes. She curled her lips when she heard Eleanor’s next words.
  • “Of course, having connections is good. I know some excellent people in the industry~,” she hummed arrogantly, not forgetting to put Elara down like usual. “You should go out more too, sister. Perform well in your job so that you will leave a good impression on the employers.”
  • Oh, she was probably referring to that modelling job incident. She didn’t care much. It was all in the past, anyway.
  • There was important information that she managed to glean from Eleanor’s words. She got this debut role from someone who had high status in the entertainment industry, probably not through an audition, either.
  • This girl must have a backer in the entertainment industry, a powerful one. Even more powerful than Henry Bennett.
  • Henry was one of her suitors in the previous life. Now, she was curious if the man would still fall for this sister of hers in this life, too.
  • “I am going to the bathroom.” Elara suddenly said and stood up without waiting for their response.
  • When she returned, Eleanor suddenly stood up too, in a hurry. The sudden movement caused her body to be pushed back, falling off balance because of the collision with Elara.
  • “Oh, sorry, sister…” Eleanor hiccuped, making a pitiful tone with her voice. It was as if she was being wronged, but she was still the one who had apologized first.
  • Fortunately, Mason had caught her in time. His dagger-like gaze was immediately directed at the quiet Elara, who also nearly fell but quickly steadied herself.
  • “Elara, you should watch where you are going. Don’t stumble on your sister,” He glared at her. After he found out that Elara had gone back to her indifferent former self for the entire dinner. The stirred emotions that she had managed to evoke within him were gone again.
  • The commotion now had begun to garner some attention, with people from nearby tables stealing glances at them.
  • Mason was the son of a businessman, too, and his family was quite well off. It was part of his arrogance that he would naturally set his date in a famous restaurant, where people from the upper class usually gather. Ordinary families wouldn’t be able to afford the food there at all.
  • “It’s alright. It’s me who is at fault, Mason. Don’t blame my sister.” Eleanor said, still maintaining the pitiful tone while still Elara kept her silent.
  • When she lowered her gaze, looking like she was in guilt, her lips actually curled up slightly. Some guests had been paying attention to them and they should have gotten to hear their names, too.
  • As Mason led Eleanor back to her seat, they didn’t expect that at this moment, Elara began to speak. She let out a sniffle. “I accept your apology for stumbling over me so suddenly, sister…”
  • “I will also accept your apology if you actually take my fiance from me.” This time, her voice turned into sobs.
  • Eleanor, who had just sat, had a change in expression. From initial bewilderment into shock, and then slight panic. “What do you mean by this, El–”
  • Elara bit her lips. Tears that were gathering in her eyes started to stream down her cheek at this moment. She pointed at Mason. “Even everyone here can see that you like my fiance and he also likes you back! You leaned against him earlier and he didn’t push you away. Even when you admitted it was you who stumbled on me first, he still defended you.”
  • She had waited for Eleanor to finish her performance first before starting hers.
  • Now, a lot of attention was on them. Especially from curious people who just wanted to know what kind of drama was going on. So, she kindly gave them drama.
  • “That’s not true.” Eleanor tried to explain. “He just regarded me as his younger sister.”
  • At this moment, Mason also stood up in anger. His face was red with shame. “Elara, that’s enough.”
  • Elara sobbed even more, looking even more pitiful after Mason just scolded her. They said that the crying kids got candies. At this time, Elara was alone, while whose side Mason was on; it was clear from the beginning.
  • After Eleanor explained, it even made their relationship look more ambiguous. Some people were already frowning in disapproval at her.
  • “Look, you even yelled at me for her!” Elara’s face had the look of disbelief. “So, it’s true that you two actually have a relationship with each other?”
  • Before they could say anything further, Elara sobbed again, this time more loudly. Then, she ran out of the room with the look of a brokenhearted girl.
  • The tables had slowly turned.
  • However, it was only the beginning
