Chapter 2 Begging for Forgiveness
- Darius was visibly shaken, at a loss for words. He had never felt this anxious, nervous, and fearful when facing millions of enemy soldiers or world leaders.
- "Is that you?"
- Kael stood frozen in place, bewildered.
- "Who's that?"
- Curious, Gabriel walked over.
- "Gabriel, it's me, your eldest brother Darius," Darius said excitedly.
- Instantly, Gabriel's face turned as dark as ink.
- "Get out! If you don't want to die, get out right now!!! I don't have a heartless brother like you!!"
- Aveline remained silent, her face stern, as she walked out.
- Slap!
- A resounding slap landed on Darius's face.
- Without a word of complaint, Darius bows silently before his siblings, seeking their forgiveness.
- "You think bowing down will make up for your sins? Dream on!!" Aveline sneered.
- Bang! The door slammed shut.
- The dinner was unusually tense.
- "Is he still outside?" Gabriel asked.
- "Yeah, standing there. Haha, he thinks we'll forgive him if he does that?" Aveline said it coldly.
- "How about letting him in?" Kael suggested.
- "Kael! Are you swimming in gold? Or do you think our house needs to be more crowded? Let me clarify, it's him or me—choose wisely," Freya snapped.
- Kael chuckled awkwardly. "I was just kidding. There's no way I'd let that jerk in."
- When Kael opened the door the next day, he found Darius standing outside.
- "Kael, I'm sorry."
- Darius didn't say much, remaining on his feet.
- Kael, known for his soft heart, sighed deeply and waved his hand. "Come inside."
- Lunch that afternoon was even more tense. Kael sat at the head of the table, looking at his siblings before him. He sighed again, saying, "I don't want Darius to return. But he's still our big brother. Blood is thicker than water. He's just been released from prison, and logically, we should lend him a hand."
- "Today, let's discuss how to settle him in."
- After speaking, the siblings exchanged glances, and the atmosphere became extremely quiet.
- Hastily, Darius pulled out several gift boxes and handed them to Kael and his siblings, including Kael's wife, Freya.
- "Well, this is a little gift I bought."
- Kael and the others were surprised by his words, instinctively taking the boxes.
- "Wow, the box is quite fancy! Must be worth a lot, huh?" Freya sneered sarcastically.
- Then she opened the box.
- It was a diamond ring.
- It shimmered brilliantly, was extremely dazzling, and was enormous!
- At least 10 carats!
- Darius had specially commissioned a world-class craftsman to custom-make it for Freya because he knew how much she had sacrificed for the family over the years.
- Seeing the diamond ring, Freya was momentarily stunned.
- It sparkled with a rainbow of colours, enhanced by skilled craftsmanship and the huge diamond.
- It was undeniably beautiful from every angle!
- "Nice imitation," Freya remarked as she closed the box.
- "Why not try it on?" Darius suggested.
- "Wear this? Do you want me to embarrass myself with this obvious knockoff?" Freya snorted.
- "It's not. It's real."
- "Hmph, this 'designer' bag is so fake! It doesn't even have a label!" Aveline scoffed, pulling out a limited-edition LV bag.
- It lacked any markings because Darius had it custom-made directly by LV's top designer.
- "It's unique worldwide, one of a kind!"
- "Aveline, try it on and see if you like it," Darius said with a smile.
- "Heh."
- But the next moment, Aveline took scissors and shredded the bag, tossing it into the trash.
- "Just like you, it's garbage! I'm going for live streaming!"
- With that, she stormed back into her room to start her livestream.
- "This is the rapist's stuff. I don't want it!" Gabriel angrily slammed his Patek Philippe watch from the box onto the floor.
- "I'm full!" He went back to his room.
- "Gabriel, Aveline, what are you doing? Even if it's fake, you shouldn't treat things like this!" Kael stood up, slamming the table.
- Darius quickly pulled him back. "If they don't like it, let them be. I'll get them something better later."
- "Sigh. Let's eat first."
- Freya deliberately made the food taste particularly bad. But Darius enjoyed it thoroughly. No delicacy could compare to simple meals shared with family.
- However, as he looked around Kael's home, Darius couldn't help but sigh. His siblings' living conditions were even worse than he had imagined!
- "Go buy that 1400-square-metre apartment at Golden Oaks Estate. Put it under Freya's name." Darius sent a WhatsApp message to his assistant.
- Freya, an outsider, had shouldered so much pressure and managed the household well alongside Kael. He felt he needed to repay her doubly.
- "War God, it's done. You can move in next week," came the reply.
- "Okay."
- After lunch, Freya went to the kitchen to wash dishes.
- "Darius, you'll have to crash on the couch tonight. I was thinking of squeezing you in with Gabriel and Aveline, but they weren't having it," Kael said.
- "No worries at all. As long as I'm with you guys, the couch is fine," Darius quickly responded.
- "Come here a sec."
- Kael glanced around mischievously, pulled Darius onto the balcony, and handed him a bank card.
- "Um, I've got this set up for you. There's 4,500 dollars in there. Password's six eights."
- "Fresh out of prison and completely out of touch with society. You must be prepared for everything. Keep some cash on you, and I'll be at ease." Even though Kael was the second eldest, he had already taken on the role of the eldest in the family.
- This card contained all of his savings.
- "Huh?"
- This took Darius by surprise. He paused, his eyes flickering with a hint of crystal-clear happiness. Blood ties indeed run deep!
- Darius was delighted. Although the money was meagre, it was a heartfelt gesture from his brother. What was even more precious was knowing that his second brother's financial situation could have been better. This 4,500 dollars was all he had in savings. Giving him this money was not just a gesture but also a responsibility.
- Darius was touched.
- Hardship hadn't crushed his brother. Instead, it made him more mature and responsible, shaping him into a true man!
- However, how could he possibly accept money from his brother?
- "No need, I'm good," Darius said, pushing the card back.
- Meanwhile, Freya, washing dishes in the kitchen, wore a resentful expression. Pride leads to suffering!
- That was their last bit of savings!
- Did you take it out to give to a rapist?
- Freya stirred the sink vigorously, clattering in the kitchen. Kael felt awkward.
- "No, he must be kicked out! We can't let this rapist ruin our family!"
