Chapter 1 - Release From Prison
- “Mr Chile, you have been bailed out of this place. You're to sign the document before you in order to get discharged from here and thereafter regain your freedom.” A hoarse male voice said to a tall and slender looking young man who was wearing a prison uniform after he was brought out of an underground prison room into an office building. Saying this, the man placed a document’ file on a center table across from the prisoner.
- The Prisoner's name is Paul Chile and he was a prisoner of the cruel fate of life, love and betrayal.
- He had been incarcerated inside the underground prison of national prison and correctional center of his country for many years without hope of regaining his freedom because he had slapped an heir to a rich and powerful Conglomerate in the state who had harassed his wife publicly during a college end of year party at Fly Top University.
- However, there was a mass pardon granted to all prisoners by the county’s mayor and he was about to be freed.
- For over thirty minutes, Paul was unable to react to what the hoarse male voice had told him as he didn't understand what the man meant by ‘sign this document and regain your freedom!’
- This statement seemed very unreal to him. “Am I daydreaming?” He murmured.
- Since he didn't react to the man’s instructions, the voice thundered again, “Mr Chile, I said that you have been bailed out of this place and that you should sign the discharge document papers so that you can regain your freedom!”
- The man's voice called Paul back to his reality and he quickly flipped open the pages of the document file which was placed on a table across from him to sign it. However, his eyes caught sight of some striking words inside the document. It reads - “Now that you have been freed from the prison, stay out of trouble and ensure that you strive to reciprocate this gesture to all who might need your assistance to regain their freedom from their oppressors in the future. Sign; Former Victim of ruthless oppression and prisoner of justice.”
- Paul stood pensively with an inexpressive emotional face whilst casting his glaring eyes intently at the content of the discharge document. After some few minutes of being speechless, he took the pen which was beside the document and endorsed his signature on the column of the document where he was to sign.
- “Sir, can I extract the contact information of my benefactor from this document?” Paul finally asked the man who gave him the document to sign after a pensive and thoughtful thought about the meaning of the cost of his freedom. He pleaded with the man to allow him to get the contact details that were written on the discharge document papers.
- “What do you need the contact details for?” The man asked.
- The man's name was Fidelis Briggs and he was the person in charge of the national prison and correctional center.
- “I want to at least call and appreciate him for coming through for me at my most critical moments of life,” replied Paul.
- “It's between you and your benefactor. You can do whatever you wish to do but make sure that you avoid making trouble with people in the future. Otherwise, you will still be returned back to this place to rot in the deepest part of the underground prison.” The man said and then handed him a small piece of paper.
- Paul used the paper and copied the contact details.
- Next, Paul quickly pulled off the prison wear which was indeed dirty and stinky and then requested for his old clothes. Soon after, a female warder came forward and handed him his clothes, old phone, and one hundred dollars for his transport…
- Paul collected the items from the warder and was led out of the prison by security operatives.
- As soon as he stepped out of the dark underground prison, a fresh and healthy breeze greeted him, a stark contrast of what he had experienced and endured for many years inside the underground dungeon. Walking out of the prison fence, a bright light shone on his gloomy face while a breathtaking breeze consoled his pain-filled hearts.
- He stood rooted at the roadside very pensively whilst looking at the prison where he was incarcerated for God-know-years and murmured, “For how many years have I been incarcerated in this dungeon? One, two, three… Three years?! I have been locked up illegally in this God-forsaken dungeon for three miserable years!”
- “Ella Orlan! Where's Ella and how is she doing right now?!” Paul suddenly remembered a name while he was lost in his wilderness of thoughts and shouted the name at once.
- Ella Orlan is his beloved wife.
- How could he not remember the woman on whose course he was held captive in an underground dungeon for three God-forsaken years!
- Although he was previously moody, Ella's name brightened his mood, forcing smiles out of his face as he stopped a cab to take him home.
- Hours later…
- Paul alighted from the cab after he arrived at his destination and paid the cab driver a fifty dollars from the one hundred dollars he was given as transport fare at the prison.
- There was a penthouse villa located in the area where he alighted. It was the Orlan's family house and the destination where Paul was headed to. He went to the gate and rang the doorbell.
- “Who is there?” A voice asked from inside before the gate’s door was thrown open for him shortly after.
- “Mr Chile, have you been informed that Miss Ella is getting remarried in two weeks time from now?” It was the Chief Butler of the Orlan's family who answered the gate for him.
- “What?! … Why?! ... Ella getting remarried in two weeks time from now? That's not possible! You must be joking right?!” Paul's disappointment and sorrowful heart stared at him on his face and darkened it immediately. His voice of disappointment and pains didn't escape notice. Instead, his raised pitch of sheer agony attracted the members of Orlan’s family.
- Soon, a hostile male voice came thundering from the Villa, saying, “Hey you foolish Paul! Why are you here questioning the decision of our family?!”
