Chapter 10
- After resting for about two weeks, Catherine finally no longer felt unwell. Seeing her savings dwindling in her bank account, she decided it was time to find a job.
- She looked at the shrinking numbers in her savings book with a vague sense of worry. The baby in her belly seemed to sense its mother’s unease and gave a gentle kick. Catherine placed her hand on her stomach; a bittersweet warmth spread through her.
- “I’m sorry, my baby,” she whispered, “but I promise I’ll protect you, no matter what.”
