Chapter 13 First Encounter

  • Carrying the child on their backs, the three walked in the forest for almost twenty minutes. Other than having a reasonably adequate supply of medicine, their other supplies had run out. The cameraman was also clearly exhausted.
  • Man Yu pushed aside an underbrush that was almost half her height. When she saw the scenery before her, she immediately rejoiced. Indeed, hard work pays off, they really did find a water source.
  • Big K and Little K jumped with joy. They wanted to lift up Man Yu and twirl her around.
  • Little K jumped and said, "Sis, are you an explorer? You even managed to find a water source in such a hidden place!"
  • Man Yu was a bit embarrassed. She replied, "The truth is, this source isn't that hidden away, it was just a bit hard for us to find from where we were."
  • They walked out of the underbrush, one behind the other, and arrived at small clearing next to the river. The river wasn't big; it was only half a meter wide, but the water quality was still acceptable. The water was so clear you could see the bottom, and a few fat fish could vaguely be seen.
  • Taking in consideration to Man Yu's leg was injured and it wasn't advisable for her to trek a long distance again, Big K suggested that she stay here with the child and take a rest, while the two of them will scout out the surrounding area to see if there was anywhere suitable for them to set up camp.
  • Man Yu accepted the child and held him in her arms. She said to them, "Then, you guys be careful. If anything happens, come back to tell me right away."
  • "Go it. Have a good rest, Sis. We'll be back as soon as we can."
  • After the two left, the small clearing only had her, the child, and the cameraman, who almost had no presence.
  • Man Yu didn't have the energy to look after the cameraman who looked like he was about to collapse from exhaustion. She immediately sat on the ground, opened up a sleeping bag and placed the child on top. She checked to see whether he had been scratched by stray branches while he was being carried on their backs.
  • This child only looked around ten. Judging from his clothes, he had to be a child from a rich family who had been raised like a prince in the city. How did he end up alone and unconscious in an uninhabited natural reserve? Moreover, his skin was soft and delicate. He had definitely never gone through to this much hardship before. He was so pitiful.
  • She stroked the little boy's hair and decided that when the program ended, she will definitely help him contact his family as soon as possible.
  • Ten minutes passed and the KK Duo still hadn't come back. Man Yu roughly looked around her surroundings, and felt that it shouldn't be hard to find a place near this river to set up camp. Replenishing their supplies was only a matter of time. In this environment with an abundance of resources, their team might be able to find enough supplies to forge forward. But... the matter of vital importance wasn't their team forging forward but,
  • That this child had a fever.
  • It wasn't surprising that he had been unconscious since yesterday. He was bitten by an insect, and had been caught in rain. Even someone with a body as strong as iron might collapse, let alone a little child as young as him.
  • Man Yu didn't quite know what to do. The simple fever-reducing medicine in the medical kit didn't seem to be working at all. She asked anxiously, "Sir, when will they be able to arrive here?"
  • The cameraman was also a bit panicky, "I'm not sure. Maybe they're not taking the same route as us. I'll go contact the director."
  • Seeing the cameraman rush to the side to contact the director, Man Yu didn't continue to rest either. She decided to use physical cooling methods to reduce his temperature.
  • Just when she was lightly putting a wet cloth on the little boy's forehead, she suddenly heard the sound of something approaching from the underbrush on the side.
  • Man Yu vigilantly turned around and saw a young man wearing an outdoor jacket and carrying equipment on his back, strenuously push aside the underbrush, and enter the clearing.
  • The man was clearly a bit stunned to see that there were people here. He stopped and after standing blankly for a few seconds, he anxiously said, "Hello, I'm a tourist, have you seen a... little boy about this tall?"
  • As he spoke he indicated the height with his hand. It was more or less the height of unconscious little boy.
  • Man Yu was surprised. She moved sideways, revealing the little boy who been had blocked from view, "Are you looking for him?"
  • The man stared at the boy lying on the sleeping bag, and instantly rushed forward, "Qilin!"
  • He excitedly threw down the tools in his hand, and rushed over. He knelt next to the boy and carefully looked at him.
  • "Oh my god, I finally found you! What's wrong with him? Is he okay?"
  • Man Yu moved back to give him space, and explained, "He currently has a fever. His condition is unclear. We must find someone to examine him as soon as possible, but our production crew isn't here..."
  • The man raised his slightly bloodshot eyes and said seriously, "Thank you guys for saving him! Please come with me! Our tent is nearby!"
  • After Man Yu heard his words, she stood up and started packing without any hesitation, preparing to follow this unknown man to their tent. She turned and said to the cameraman, "Stay here for now. I'll come back to find you guys soon."
  • The cameraman agreed and watched the three figures vanish into the underbrush.
  • They were heading in a completely different direction from Big K and Little K. After walking several hundred meters, a big, tall and solid camping tent impressively came into view. A slightly fat middle-aged man was sitting inside, anxiously waiting.
  • When the middle-aged man saw the three of them come over, he rushed forward, "You found Qilin? Thank goodness!"
  • The young man hurriedly entered the tent with the child on his back. Man Yu also followed him in. He put down the little boy and said to the middle-aged man, "Doctor Liao, quickly examine him. Qilin is unconscious and has a fever. Is he okay?!"
  • "Don't panic, I'll examine him."
  • Doctor Liao took out his medical equipment and started to slowly examine him, from his head down to his toes, not missing a single spot, afraid that he would overlook any small wound. During the examination, everyone's gaze was on the little boy, silently praying that nothing was wrong. When Doctor Liao pushed up the boy's trouser leg, and saw the insect bite wound, the two men gasped in shock.
  • After roughly examining for two minutes, Doctor Liao's brow was beaded with sweat, and he finally took off his stethoscope. He patted the young man on the shoulder, "He's fine, he's fine. Qilin just has a high fever because he caught a cold. It's not a symptom from poisoning. He was bitten by an insect but the poison has already lost its effectiveness. He should be alright."
  • Both Man Yu and the man let out a breath of relief.
  • "Phew... Scared the hell out of me."
  • Doctor Liao turned and picked up some medicine. He said to the young man, "You've found him now. Go call your father back. Don't keep him worrying."
  • The man stood up and said, "Then, could I trouble you to look after Qilin, Doctor Liao?"
  • "No problem."
  • Man Yu followed the man out of the tent. It was a great weight off her mind knowing that the boy was okay.
  • The man went off to the side and made a phone call, briefly uttering a few words. After he came back, he unloaded the equipment he was carrying, fixed his slightly wind-blown hair and went up to Man Yu.
  • Man Yu finally took a proper look at this stranger: Tall and skinny, fair skin, high nose, and a beauty spot on the side of his deep-set eyes.
  • He smiled like a weight had been taken off his shoulders, his eyes full of gratitude towards the woman in front of him. He held out a slender hand, and politely and gently said, "I didn't have the time to introduce myself earlier. Nice to meet you. My name is Song Jiamu.
