Chapter 2
- Allison's POV
- It is closing hours after work and I am standing at the lobby, my eyes fixed on the entrance as I wait for Elsa. I do not fail to catch the front desk staff staring at me and whispering to each other. It doesn't move me anymore because I am already used to the constant gossip about me. They are gossiping about the same old thing.
- The low class omega girl who somehow managed to secure a job at this prominent company, yet lacking in the fashion flair that most of the employees here possess.
- “Who even wears that to a corporate job?” One of the ladies whispers and the second one replied.
- “I know right? Even if she works in the tech section, that doesn't give her a right to wear that to work. She is so embarrassing.”
- “I heard she is quite good with what she does, though. Matter of fact, she is the best software developer the company has. Rachel's dead jealous of her.”
- The ladies immediately fall into a reverent silence as a tall figure strides into the lobby, radiating an aura of power and authority. Accompanied by Rachel and another man, the trio commands the attention of everyone within their sight. Without waiting to be told, we bow our heads in respect, acknowledging his position as the Alpha and CEO of our pack.
- He passes us without a word, while Rachel briefs him on his schedule for the day. As we bow our heads while he passes us, I lift my gaze discreetly and steal glances at him. Xander Black, the epitome of masculine beauty. His dark, wavy hair falls effortlessly across his chiseled features, his intense hazel eyes cutting a striking contrast to the glint of his strong, angular jawline. He is every woman's dream, even an omega girl like me who knows she stands no chance with him.
- As we watch his powerful form recede into the distance as he walks out of the building, I hear the ladies whispers of admiration and longing.
- “How can someone be this hot? He has to be some kind of god.”
- I know, right? I am equally in awe.
- “Did you see those shoulders? They are so broad and muscular. Every girl would kill to be in his arms.” The second lady says with a dreamy sigh.
- I'd sell my soul to be with him. He is perfect. In fact, too perfect to be true.
- But I know my dreams to be with him are only pies in the skies dreams. I was not even an inch close to his league and he barely even notices. I am content with admiring him from away and living in my wishful day dreams.
- “Allison, hey.” Elsa breaks me from my trance as she hurries towards me while fumbling with her handbag. She looks stressed from all of the workload in the office. “Did I keep you waiting for long?”
- “Nah. It's fine.” I reply to her and she takes my hand and leads us out of the company building.
- “Ugh, Rachel is such a bitch.” Elsa seethes as we navigate our way towards my car in the company's parking lot. “She’s constantly nitpicking about everything I do and won't even give me a moment's peace. She is such a big bully. The company should have her fired.”
- Seems like I am not the only person whom Rachel keeps picking on.
- “You know that's not possible.” I say to her as we venture in my car and strap our seatbelts on. “As much as Rachel is a bitch and almost everyone hates her, she is of great asset to the CEO, and he would never get her fired. Plus, they're childhood friends.”
- “Childhood friends my foot.” Rachel sticks her nose into the air. “Everyone knows she likes Xander Black and is literally obsessed with him.”
- She turns her head to face me while I drive down the road. “Can you lend me some money, Allison? My apartment rent and utility bills are due. I'll be screwed if I don't pay on time and I barely have anything left with me again.”
- “Let me guess what you used your money for. New shoes and more bags?” I laugh sarcastically and Allison slaps me lightly on the arm.
- “Don't be like that. A girl's gotta look good.”
- “And broke?” I continue to laugh and Allison hits me again.
- “Stop it.” She switches up to pout at me and gives me puppy eyes. Just like me, it is her manipulative tactic when she wants something to go her way. “Are you gonna lend me some money? Please?”
- “Yes, I can. But it won't be much. I lent some cash to Peterson earlier.”
- Allison automatically goes mute and she slouches back to her seat, her eyes staring at me. I know what she is about to talk about next and I do not want to hear it, but I have no choice.
- “Didn't you lend him some huge amount of money last week?” She fires at me and I sigh deeply before answering her question. I keep my eyes focused on the road so that I would not be able to see the look of anger and disbelief that is written all over her face now.
- “I know. But it was for some investments…”
- “That is bullshit, Allison! Total bullshit! Have you even looked into this so-called investment that he talks about? Or are you literally working your ass off, not spending on yourself, only to give him all of your earnings?!”
- Even though Elsa's words sound reasonable, I do not want to listen. I do not want to plant any doubts in my heart about Peterson. Instead, I try to turn the table around on Elsa.
- “I cannot believe this is coming from someone who overspends on material things and doesn't know how to save her money.”
- The car falls into a deafening silence as I say those words and realizing the gravity of what I have just said, I cast a quick glance at Elsa. Her face has gone pale and I can see the pain in her eyes.
- I feel the insides of my stomach twist in a knot and the feeling of regret washes over me. It was never my intention to say something that would make her feel bad about herself.
- “Elsa, I'm…” I try to apologize but she cuts me off instantly.
- “Drop me off here.”
- Fuck. She's really pissed at me.
- “I'm really sorry. I didn't mean to…”
- “I said, drop me off right here. I'll get a cab and go home.” She says through gritted teeth now and I sigh before packing my car by the side of the road. It would be a foolish move if I refuse to listen to her. Knowing the kind of person she is, she might jump out of my moving car and not care whether she injures herself or not.
- Allison drops out of the car and before she shuts my door, she gives me the middle finger.
- “Screw you, bitch.” Then, she shuts my door with a loud thud and storms away from my car.
- With a frustrated sigh, I start my car again and head home.
- ………………….
- When I get home, I head straight to my bedroom to change into a comfier wear but the sight and sound that greets me throws me into a wave of shock.
- A naked woman is on top of a man, riding him with so much passion, while the both of them moan in enjoyment. My heart drops to the pit of my stomach when the shock of recognition hits me like a cold slap. The man is Peterson.
- Denial comes first, a desperate attempt to reject the reality before my eyes. But soon, it is replaced by a crushing disappointment. A chilling numbness follows, and then the next second, a storm of white hot rage surges through me, eager to be unleashed.
- “How dare you?” I seeth and the two of them immediately jerked at my words. The woman immediately gets off him and hides under the bed sheets that Peterson uses to cover the both of them. There is a look of shock on Peterson's face. It is clear that he had not anticipated my arrival at this time and that is why he had brought a woman to have sex with her in my apartment.
- I refuse to believe my eyes that any of this was happening. Never in a million years, did I let the thought of Peterson possibly cheating on me cross my mind. Talk more of the thought that he would do it on my bed of all places.
- “Al…Allison…” He stutters, his face now devoid of all colors. He gulps nervously. “Wh…why are you back now? I…I…I thought…”
- “You thought I'd come back home late and that was why you had the audacity to bring some girl into my apartment and have sex with her on my bed?!” I yell at him, hot rage reverberating through me. “If you were going to cheat, at least, do it in your own apartment and in your own damn bed!”
- But his apartment is a small studio apartment that he shares with two other roommates.
- Whatever!
- “You know what?” I suck in air with my mouth as I mentally fight to keep my temper in check. I will not give Peterson the privilege to see me weak and broken. “By the time I come back to this apartment, I don't want to see your face or hers anywhere near me.”
- I turn on my heels and begin to storm out of the room but once I reach the door, I pause and whip my head around to face them. I am trying so hard to hold back the tears of betrayal and heartbreak that threatens to spill out o
- f my eyes.
- “And one more thing, Peterson. Make sure you pack up all your little belongings. We're done.”
