Chapter 6
- Ashton
- There's been a fucking breach.
- How is that even possible??? I've asked Brad and a couple of others that question for the past four hours but nobody has the response I need.
- Nobody has been able to give me the exact answers that I need.
- Part of me still didn’t believe it... well, until I saw the grainy video and it was me.
- Whoever made that video couldn't have been inside the room, could they?
- I thought about her... The little bitch from the night but it can't be her either.
- That couldn't have been pulled by her. It was done nearly like the type of job done by a professional.
- To add to that, with the way she fled from the scene— I don't think she's got the mind to do something like this.
- Did she not know who I am?
- Did she not realize the type of trouble she'd be putting herself into by crossing me?
- Nobody who dares to cross me lives and it's no news in this part of the world.
- This is my haven, it's my responsibility and I've done nothing in these years but to make sure it's bulletproof.
- I know just how thirsty people get and the length they can go to ruin other people and that's why I have everything in place.
- Security at the gate, more at the entrance, no recording devices inside. Bouncers who are in every corner and—
- "This is so fucking bad," my brother, Miller muttered, looking at me.
- Oh, I didn't know that.
- "I mean— it's already bad that there's been a leak but you know what's worse? It's a blurry sex tape but whoever sees this knows it's you. Whoever the girl is, she's lucky her face wasn't captured."
- "That's not why I'm here," I reminded him. I've had to handle too many things in such a short time.
- Since this morning, all my men have been systematically informed of the security breach.
- A notification went out assuring the party goers that we are aware of the issue, and they had nothing to worry about.
- Measures were being taken immediately to ensure continued privacy.
- "What's the status of the fucking—"
- "I'm on it," he announced. "I've sent DMCA takedown notices to these websites. If necessary, I'll file a lawsuit to make sure it's done."
- "If necessary??" I questioned. "Look, we're beyond the ifs now, so if you can do your damn job, I'll appreciate that."
- His Adam’s apple bobbed in his throat. It wasn’t often he disappointed me, but right now?
- "Language, mate."
- Yeah, Miller is three years older and the more responsible brother but I don't care. His ability to be responsible should be giving us more points right now.
- My peaking frustration surged through my body, making me restless as I paced the length of the office.
- "You should get a grip of yourself," he added. "It's your mess and this could have been avoided if you had taken security measures more seriously."
- Quiet rage simmered through me as I lifted my gaze back to his laptop.
- I rubbed my hand over my jaw, feeling how tight it was from clenching so goddamn hard.
- "I'm already doing everything I can okay? This is going to take some time and I have an interview right now. So how about you cut me some slack and let me do my job?"
- “I take it that your job doesn't include figuring shit with your brother.” I headed straight to the bar, which is concealed in one of the cabinets that line one wall.
- There’s an ice machine right beside it and well, I've never been more proud of the architect who built the place.
- I poured us both a whiskey on ice because we both fucking need it.
- "You know that's not what I meant," Miller said, shaking his head.
- I couldn't help but relent at his expression. Miller is the best person I know. Aside the fact that he's my big brother, he's one hell of a lawyer and the reason why I can do most unhinged things without thinking twice.
- He’s a genius at what he does. And he’s a genuinely good guy, only that I'm better looking.
- Miller swirled the whiskey round in his glass before taking a long sip. "We uh— we have an email.”
- "An email?" I questioned.
- "Some of the leaked information can be traced back to one of our company addresses, so I'm checking to see if it's incriminating.”
- My brain spun and I sat forward. Nothing ever stresses me out and I hate that I feel this way right now.
- "I'll let you know when I get something worth sharing. For now, you should get some rest."
- He picked up a document and glanced through it quickly like he was bracing himself for something.
- I do not blame him. He's the one handling Mash Legal & co and it must be a lot.
- The door opened and Ephanie swan in. “I am so sorry about that little holdup, Mr. Miller. Rebecca Carson is here."
- I drained my whiskey and ran my thumb along the cut-glass pattern, ignoring the whole scenario.
- I know Miller wants me to leave but I know my brother. He's not going to feel the pressure if I leave and well, shit may just get worse.
- Miller frowned. "No legal experience? Specialized experience?"
- I'm highly entertained by his frustration but my eyes remained glued to my screen. Just maybe if I pay attention to the details on my screen, I may have a hint about how this whole shit happened.
- "How the hell am I supposed to employ you?"
- Usually, we have a meeting to scrutinize and employ recruits or reject them based on our analysis but I'm not in the mood for that.
- I vaguely remember Miller telling me about a recent application and all but I never paid attention to him or the interview he was having.
- "You're underqualified." His voice was stern, like a final curt.
- "I know sir, but all I'm asking if for an opportunity to show you just how valuable I can be to your firm."
- Did I hear that right? Valuable?
- I raised my head to catch the face of the woman who just spoke and—
- No way.
- Have I fantasized about her so much that my brain is playing tricks on me?
- It's her.
- Her long hair was pulled up, revealing her stunning face. Her eyes are bright, and her face— holy shit.
- she was wearing a little black dress that hid the real size of her titties.
- Without thinking twice, I stood up. "Hire her. I want her as my lawyer."
