Chapter 1 The Change In Heart
- When I got pregnant before the marriage, the promised betrothal gift was suddenly renegotiated. To lower the price, my boyfriend's mother spread rumors everywhere, calling me shameless and claiming I was a loose woman that no one would want.
- At first, my boyfriend denied the child was his. Then, he got into a car accident and lost his ability to have children. His entire family went on their knees, begging me to marry him.
- Alas, I was done. I refused to get married to him.
- “Michael, can we move the wedding date forward? I don't want to wear a wedding dress while pregnant.”
- Michael Fuller held my pregnancy test results in his hand, looking both excited and slightly hesitant.
- “Amy, we can get married earlier, but half a month ago, we loaned our family's money to my sister to buy a house. It'll take another two months to get it back. So, we can't prepare the betrothal gift yet.”
- I was stunned.
- On the day we got engaged, his family had promised to deliver the betrothal gift to my family within a month.
- Today was the final day of that month.
- And now, he's saying what?
- Two more months?
- Two months later, we would've already had the wedding!
- I felt my face darken as I stared straight at him, a hint of anger in my voice. “So, what exactly is your plan now?”
- He avoided my gaze, pausing for a long moment. “Amy, if your family is willing to accept the betrothal gift after the wedding, we can get married first. I'll borrow the money for the wedding from my friends and make it work.”
- I couldn't help but laugh out of anger. His family was truly something.
- The wedding was approaching, but they decided to loan their son's wedding funds to their daughter to buy a house? Unbelievable.
- “Heh, being a daughter in your family must be truly blissful. Michael, have you forgotten the promises you made to my mom?”
- My dad passed away early, but we were locals.
- When he was alive, he owned several old houses.
- After the neighborhood was redeveloped, we were compensated with a considerable amount of money and several new houses.
- Due to our family circumstances, my mom never even considered Michael to be a suitable match for me.
- Michael's family had worked hard their entire lives but still couldn't afford to buy a house. Their entire family had to squeeze into a rented place less than three thousand square feet big.
