Chapter 6 The One He Loved The Most

  • During our five years together, I suffered quite a bit at Mirana's hands. During those five years we were together, I certainly had my fair share of hardships because of her.
  • Michael loved me, but the one he loved most was still his sister.
  • When it came to gifts, if I got something, so did she.
  • If I didn't get something, she still did.
  • Looking back, his love for me seemed purely superficial.
  • He'd accompany me on shopping trips, but I'd pay for everything.
  • He'd book the restaurants we dined at, but I'd cover the bills.
  • He planned the trips we took, but all the flights, hotels, meals, and activities were charged to my card.
  • Even during the month we lived together, I was the one footing all the bills.
  • I've never been short of money. Losing my father at a young age, what I lacked was love.
  • If someone showed me even the slightest bit of care, I'd be deeply moved and hopelessly devoted.
  • Thinking back, it seems Michael never really spent much money on me.
  • What he gave me was just his company and his time.
  • Yet even that was enough to make me fall for him completely.
  • His money? It all went to Mirana.
  • Every time we went out, he'd bring back a load of things for her.
  • Once, when we were out shopping, Mirana was with us. We both liked the same dress.
  • Naturally, Michael couldn't afford it. After all, that dress was priced at twenty-eight thousand.
  • For things I like, I would just buy them if I could get them with money.
  • So, I bought the dress, but the next day, it was on Mirana.
  • That led to the first fight Michael and I ever had.
  • It ended with Mirana dramatically taking off the dress, crying her heart out, and fainting on the spot.
  • Michael gave me the cold shoulder for an entire week after that.
  • In the end, it was me who made peace. I bought him a Cartier watch and bought Mirana a dress costing fifty-eight thousand to make him happy again.
  • This time, she wanted to pull the same stunt again!
  • “How did I make things hard for her? I was just stating facts. She's the one who decided to kneel. What's that got to do with me? Oh, by the way, Mirana's crying? Very impressive, almost like she's had professional training.”
  • Mirana's face froze, while Michael's anger deepened.
  • “Amelia Nichols, say one more insulting thing about my sister, and you'll see what happens!”
  • Seeing that I was at a disadvantage height-wise, Chandler stepped in front of me.
  • “Michael, are you seriously yelling at my sister?”
  • Michael, who was significantly shorter than Chandler, could only crane his neck to glare up at him.
  • “She's the one who made things hard for Mirana. Mirana even knelt down. Did you all just not see that?”
  • Chandler sneered, “Did Amy ask her to kneel? She's the one who wants to act like a pretentious b*tch to gain sympathy. What's that got to do with Amy? Isn't her pretentious act obvious? Are you all blind?”
  • Michael had already been clenching his fists, and Chandler's words pushed him over the edge. He swung at Chandler.
  • I took a step back, settling down on the sofa to watch the drama unfold.
