Chapter 6 The Lie She Tells Herself

  • I wake up in my own dorm room.
  • That's the first thing that doesn't make sense. I don't remember leaving the library, don't remember the walk back across campus, don't remember getting into bed. My shoes are off and lined up neatly by the door, which is not something I do, not ever, not in four years of living in this room. Daniel's out, probably at the gym or wherever he goes on Thursday evenings, so there's no one to ask what happened, no one to tell me how I got here.
  • My head throbs in a way that feels less like a hangover and more like something's been scooped out and put back slightly wrong.
