Chapter 7
- Ella.
- "Boss" Leon barely nods at the man whom I assume is his assistant.
- "Bring a spare desk in my office, for her. She is my new secretary" The man seems bewildered but quickly regains his composure. At this point, I don't have the strength to argue with this man. As long as I get the money, I can work from anywhere.
- "I don't know the first thing about being a secretary. I am studying medicine and thought you would give me something in that area" I take a seat in front of his desk and pull out my phone.
- Leonardo has investments in a couple of hospitals. He would have referred me to one. Furthermore, people always get hurt in the underworld business and I would be of great help there, not here.
- "Don't worry it's just an easy task" He mumbles and shifts his attention to the files on his desk. Boring.
- After exhausting hours in the office doing mostly nothing, Leon finally announces the end of the day.
- "My driver will take you home, I have somewhere else to be" If I am not mistaken, he must be going to one of his whores. If Reed could bring one home, how about when he is out there? He has really changed a lot. Why am I bothered though? Our love ended five years ago, right?
- "Stop overthinking, I have something to handle real quick" Leon adds and I wonder if my face betrayed my thoughts.
- ''It's okay, I am heading somewhere too" I announce and he silently nods, walking away.
- *
- I quickly rush to the room my son has been staying in for the last two weeks. I hate this.
- "You are here finally. He has been asking about you nonstop" I slightly smile and approach the little boy who is currently asleep. Gently running my fingers through his hair, I sigh in relief because finally, he is going to get the much-delayed treatment.
- Who ever sent me here, I don't care about their intentions. I am only grateful they gave my son a chance at healing.
- I wonder if it has something to do with the message I received yesterday. I was ordered to kill him and until now, I have no idea what is holding me back. Perhaps it's for my son's sake. How will I explain to him that I killed his father? Secrets will always come to light somehow.
- Before hell can break loose, I want him cured because it's already dangerous for him here.
- "Did you get it?" Emma hopefully whispers and I nod with a smile. I met Emma when she was just an intern in this hospital and that was two years ago. She was the nurse attending to Leon and since we frequently visited, my son grew fond of her and that's how we became friends.
- "Uh! Thankfully, at least now he is going to get treated. I can't wait for him to become better" Emma exclaims as she stares at Leone fondly. "Tell me he is at least bearable" She suddenly whispers referring to my supposed husband.
- "It's a long story, I will fill you in after tomorrow"
- Its embarrassing to tell her Leone's father is a billionaire yet I have been struggling to raise his medical bills.
- After spending enough time with my son, I walk to the car Leon sent, I can't help but feel wary. Did they follow me here? I didn't tell them my location, so how come they are here?
- Reed is leaning on a dark Bentley and I don't glance at him when I open the passenger door and get in. I stare at the hospital building and quickly send Emma a message to be careful. As soon as they complete the surgery, I am taking him to some other place.
- Leon can't know what he left behind. If he does, he will surely take the boy from me and I can't let him. Leone is my only hope in this world and he is the only thing that has kept me going all this time. Better still, when the time to finally divorce comes, he might want us to stay together for the sake of the child.
- No. I can't go back to that family because I am meant to ruin them.
- "Sick?" Reed asks and I quickly shake my head in denial.
- "I visited a friend" I mutter, hoping he doesn't notice how tense I am.
- "I am sorry for the inconvenience I caused yesterday, I should have respected your presence. If it makes you feel better, Nate punched the hell out of me"He whispers with a soft chuckle, and I glance at him. That was cute. He is cute.
- "It doesn't matter, it's just a contract we signed ?" No one knows our past and it better stay that way.
- " I just don't want you to think of me as a heartless person. Well, I can be heartless but not to everyone" The guy is really attractive. Unlike Leon's brooding face, he is somehow friendly.
- "Alright," I whisper staring out through the window
- "I can tell Nate is into you though"
- "Did he tell you something?" I quickly ask hoping he didn't mention anything. No one can know.
- "No. But I know him long enough to tell when something is eating him up. Your first encounter spoke volumes too"
- "It's nothing, really" I assure but it appears the guy is not ready to drop the topic.
- "He never employs female secretaries and he would never share his office with one. Nate hates sharing, especially his space" He pushes on and I groan in frustration.
- "You are looking so much into this. We are married, remember?"
- "Alright, if you say so." The guy smirks as if he isn't convinced enough and I shrug. Its up to him to believe me or not.
- Pulling at the gates, I am about to get out of the car when a bullet goes straight to my rearview window, catching us off-guard.
- "Shit" Reed growls, pulling out his phone. "Fuck! They are here" He mutters sending a quick text and grabs his gun. "Stay here, princess. Lie down and lock the doors until I am back, okay?" He whispers, frantically looking around and back to me.
- "I am not some damsel in distress Reed" I mutter opening my bag and taking out a guns and a dagger. The look on his face is epic, but it's not the right time to dwell on that. "Let us keep ourselves alive, yeah?" I push the door and sprint towards the building.
- Reed follows closely behind me
