Chapter 7 I Don't Want To Go To School

  • CHAPTER 7 I DON'T WANT TO GO TO SCHOOL
  • Later in the evening, Kira dropped her godson off with the promise to catch up with him some other time. Evelyn decided to walk her through the door.
  • "So, how was it?" Kira asked.
  • "It went well. I finally found a school for him, Primus International Kids." Evelyn replied and Kira was stunned that she stopped walking for a moment.
  • "Seriously?" Kira questioned and Evelyn nodded.
  • "Yes, why do you look so dumb?"
  • Kira laughed and they continued walking.
  • "My facial expression wasn't dumb, it only screamed shock."
  • "Shock? Why are you shocked?" Evelyn asked with confusion.
  • "The school is quite expensive, Eve. Will you be able to afford it for long?" Kira asked worriedly and Evelyn smiled.
  • "Yes, don't worry. I have already gone through everything about the school and it is okay for his studies. I believe that I will be able to get a job very soon…a very good one. Thank you."
  • "You are welcome."
  • They both had another fun discussion until the cab that Kira ordered arrived and she finally left for her place. Evelyn went back to her house and met Tommy already playing with his toys, she walked past him and went to the kitchen.
  • "Very soon, you won't have time to play with toys." She said and Tom's ears perked up. He frowned instantly at his mother.
  • "Why?" He asked.
  • "You will be going to school tomorrow for your registration," Evelyn announced as she placed the eggs with care on each plate of fried noodles. Tom's eyes widened.
  • "School? But Mom, we just got here. Can't we wait a while till we familiarize ourselves with his neighborhood?"
  • "You should know, son, that I was born and raised in this City so I know everything about it already and the only way for you to know it too is when you go to school," Evelyn replied strictly and carried the two plates to the sitting room.
  • She sat down on the floor and pushed his meal towards him, his face was still sulky that it made Evelyn chortle. Sometimes, the dinner table was a useless tool if they were the only ones around to eat including Kira, they'd just prefer to sit in the sitting room and watch some movies. They were used to it already.
  • "But Mom…"
  • "Stop being sulky and eat your food. Why don't you want to go to school?" Evelyn questioned with interest as she twisted her fork in between the long dangling noodles before lifting a lot of it with the fork and she put it into her mouth.
  • "Simple, mom! School is a total prison. You are not allowed to do anything that you like, you have to sleep late because of assignments and wake up early because you don't want to be punished for coming late. You…you have to put on uniforms when we have the right to wear whatever we want to wear as long as it is decent enough…" Tom started giving a long lecture.
  • "You know that you are too smart for a three-year-old, huh? Look at how your mouth is dancing to the wind. My darling, it's okay and I understand the way you feel because trust me when I was young I had the same thing in my mind even worse. I did not want to go and would sometimes cause trouble for everyone so that I would be prevented from going to school but it was futile. My mum was very smart and dad wouldn't allow it either." Evelyn chuckled as she reminisced over the good old days with her family.
  • "With your family, you mean grandfather and grandmother?" Tom asked with delight.
  • "Yes so…"
  • "When will I see them, momma? I do not know anyone that you know except Aunt Kira but I am happy to know that I have grandparents." Tom interrupted and received a slight knock from Evelyn.
  • "Of course, everyone has grandparents. It's impossible not to have. It is either they are alive or dead."
  • "Mum, are my grandparents dead?"
  • Evelyn sighed and rolled her eyes. What kind of gene did she mix up with that night that it had to produce such an inquisitive child? Because one thing was sure, she wasn't inquisitive like this but she had to bear it. It must have been the stupid man's gene.
  • "Tom, don't forget your table manners. Eat and we will be leaving first thing in the morning for your new school." Evelyn ordered.
  • "Okay, mummy." He said sadly and continued eating.
  • Goodness! Evelyn had never seen a child who looked so sad for not wanting to go to school.
  • "Don't worry, you will make new friends there and you are going to love them." She pats his hair and he nodded.
  • After much coercing, the mother and son departed for their rooms to prepare for the next big day.
  • Evelyn and Tom were walking down an alley, she was holding Tom's hand very tightly because it was too dark and they could only see with the help of her phone's flashlight.
  • Tom didn't seem afraid because he was with his mother while Evelyn was terrified and tried hastening their steps.
  • This wasn't the first time that they both had walked in darkness but this time around…it gave a very different vibe, somehow creepy.
  • When Evelyn saw the light of her building, she was happy and pulled Tom as fast as she could but then somehow grabbed Tom's other hand from the dark and they both yelled.
  • His face was not clear but his presence was more terrifying than that of a gangster.
  • "You thought that you could escape with my son that easily?!" The man asked ruthlessly.
  • "Who are you? Let go of my son." Evelyn screamed at him. The man laughed evilly.
  • "I should let go of your son? Have you forgotten that we both did the deed that night? I was the one who put him into you that night and you willingly accepted so now you are claiming superiority over our child? Come on, it's not done that way. He is my son as well and you have had him for so long. Three years to be precise so he is mine now!" The man answered and dragged Tom from her.
  • "Give me back my son. Someone help." The man didn't listen and faded into the dark with Tom's crying voice.
  • "Mum, save me. "
  • "Help!!!"
