Chapter 23 We Made It!

• I woke up to the faint smell of smoke and the sound of dripping water. My eyes fluttered open, and for a second, I forgot where I was. The hard, uneven ground beneath me and the dull ache in my neck quickly reminded me.
• Right. The cave. The storm. The absolute disaster of a trip I dragged Mr. Thorne into.
• I sat up slowly, wincing as my stiff muscles protested. Sleeping on rocks was not my idea of rest, but apparently, it was all the universe had to offer last night. The fire had died down to a pile of glowing embers, and the air was colder than ever.
