Chapter 2 Return to Being Single
- "For the past three years, I've been obedient at home and have never done anything to let you down. What about you? I can't even see you, and all I hear are rumors about you!" I said, refusing to back down.
- "We each do our own thing, and you should understand that! Look at you. You're fat and unattractive! Your face is covered in freckles. Just looking at you makes me sick. I can't wait to divorce you!"
- "Fine, you said it first. If you want a divorce, then let's divorce. Don't say I've been clinging to you."
- Magnus was stunned. "Have you thought it through? Naomi, don't regret it!"
- "What are you, a grown man, dawdling for?" I said disdainfully.
- Magnus coldly took out two documents from the briefcase and placed them on the table.
- "This is the divorce agreement. Think it over and sign when you're ready."
- I looked at him indifferently. He probably had prepared this divorce agreement long ago, just waiting for today as the right opportunity.
- I signed the divorce papers without hesitation.
- Magnus nodded in satisfaction at my actions. He quickly put the agreement away and left without looking back.
- As I watched his figure flash past me, a bright smile appeared on my lips.
- "Magnus, from today onwards, you go your way and I'll go mine. Let's never cross paths again!"
- I had been preparing for this day for three years. Over the past three years, I had been working both with my hands and my mind, going through years of selected exercises, staying up late to deal with overseas examinations, and taking up various jewelry design freelance jobs online.
- With this long-term part-time job, I not only saved up a substantial amount of money, but I also gradually gained some recognition online.
- The Carter family might never worry about food or drink, but their money had never been mine.
- Now, with my own money, studying abroad was a done deal. I could easily pay for the first year's tuition. As for the rest, I could apply for student loans or work part-time to support myself. These were not problems at all.
- The three years of a failed marriage, with a husband living recklessly and causing frustration, had finally come to an end.
- I could finally leave this place.
- Back in my bedroom, I took off my black-framed glasses with no lenses and removed the makeup that didn't belong to my skin, revealing a fair, clean, and delicate oval face.
- In the mirror, my eyes, which had once been dull and lifeless, were now sparkling with a dazzling light.
- Before the marriage, I had already looked into Magnus's background. He was a playboy who only knew how to drink, party, and chase women.
- It was a marriage without love. To keep him from bothering me, I tried every possible method.
- In front of Magnus, I had always presented myself as an ugly woman.
- To make him dislike me, I took online makeup lessons that mostly focused on techniques for big, beautiful eyes. However, I deliberately did the opposite. I added freckles, blackheads, and pimples to my look.
- I even bought some tasteless and cheap oversized clothes from online shops, along with silicone pads and similar items. I stuffed the clothes to the brim to make myself look fat in front of him.
- The heavens did not disappoint those who worked hard. From the very first glance, Magnus looked at me with disdain and had kept a safe distance ever since. I was very satisfied.
- Busy with tidying up, I pulled a burgundy dress out of the closet.
- The dress, though a designer brand, was a gift from Victoria last year. Back then, Magnus's girlfriend, Lauren, had the same one. When Magnus saw me wearing it, he mocked me for imitating her.
- Today, I was going to wear this dress.
- After picking out a few more clothes from the closet and tidying up the room, I left the key on the bedside table, grabbed my suitcase, and walked out the door.
- As I passed through the yard, the gardener, who was trimming the garden, stared at me in shock. In the midst of his surprise, he even fell into the bushes. It was truly baffling.
- I walked to the front gate and took one last look at this house, which was both unfamiliar and familiar.
- "Goodbye, Magnus! I'll never see you again!"
- Then, without looking back, I turned and headed to the airport.
