“Do you know that your willingness is putting you at a disadvantage? It will be hard for you to pull away. Aren’t you scared of that?” Du Shaoheng said seriously.
“So what? I will still do everything in my power to protect her,” Lu Zhanting said coldly.
Lu Zhanting didn’t know why he made this promise.
“Are you serious?” Du Shaoheng asked solemnly.
“What do you think?” Lu Zhanting said in a low tone.
“Alright, you liking someone now means you have already let go of the past. Well, it looks like this young girl is about to become my sister-in-law. Our ages are so far apart that it’s going to be a little embarrassing calling her that.” Du Shaoheng’s face relaxed.
“If you’re done here then go home.” Lu Zhanting chased him away in a deep voice.
“You do this every time. Always driving me away once you are done using me,” Lu Shaoheng said in the tone of someone who was wronged.
But once he saw Lu Zhanting’s gaze, Du Shaoheng immediately shut up.
“How is your injury? Did it relapse?” Du Shaoheng suddenly asked.
“It’s fine,” Lu Zhanting replied calmly.
“Right, I forgot to tell you. Yi Chen and Li Chuan are coming back tomorrow and have invited us to go drinking. Are you up for it?” Du Shaoheng asked.
“I’ll see how things go,” Lu Zhanting answered with a low voice.
“Alright. Then I’ll get going,” Du Shaoheng said.
After Du Shaoheng left, Lu Zhanting went to the guest room to wash up.
By the time he was done showering, Mu Xitong was already resting on the bed.
Lu Zhanting dried his hair as he walked out and he saw Lu Yi standing there respectfully.
The two of them went to the study room and Lu Zhanting sat down as Lu Yi stood beside him reverently.
“Did you find anything?” Lu Zhanting asked.
“Yes, we found out that Mu Xitong is the second miss of Mu Group, however her mother passed away when she was very young. Her father then brought a lover of his back home and they had a daughter. Ever since then, Miss Mu has not had a good life while she was there. Being unable to bear with it, she ended up moving out,” Lu Yi reported deferentially.
“What else?” Lu Zhanting questioned.
“Today, Miss Mu went home because she heard that her father’s company was having problems and he wanted to marry her off to some old man. Miss Mu refused and ran away from home. Apart from that, her stepsister had stolen her boyfriend and the two of them are close to getting engaged,” Lu Yi relayed carefully, because Lu Zhanting was glowering at this moment.
“What’s the name of that man?” Lu Zhanting asked frostily.
Lu Yi had been by Lu Zhanting’s side for many years and naturally knew who Lu Zhanting was referring to.
“Shao Zhehao of Shao Group,” Lu Yi answered.
“Hmph. Since he abandoned Xi Tong, then from now on I will make her the most dazzling and happiest woman alive,” Lu Zhanting said with a chilly tone.
Once Lu Yi heard Lu Zhanting’s words, he knew that Lu Zhanting had started falling for Mu Xitong.
“Boss, what should we do next?” Lu Yi asked.
“Leave it for now. I want to ask Xitong for her opinion,” Lu Zhanting responded.
“Understood.” Lu Yi nodded.
Lu Zhanting lifted his head and looked at his watch before turning to Lu Yi.
“It’s late, you should go home and rest,” Lu Zhanting ordered.
“Alright.” Lu Yi left respectfully.
Lu Zhanting took out his phone and dialed a number.
“Hey. Use the measurements I sent to you earlier and make a custom version of every limited edition outfit you have, including shoes, accessories and handbags. I want to see them by tomorrow,” Lu Zhanting commanded coldly.
After he finished giving orders, he returned to his room quietly.
At the sight of Mu Xitong lying on the bed, the corners of his mouth lifted.
The light reflected off the golden mask, causing the dragons on it to appear as if they were alive.
Lu Zhanting lowered his head and looked at Mu Xitong, his gaze full of tenderness.
“Maybe you saving my life made you a predestined fate in my life, but I am willing to accept this fate. From now on, I will take care of you and make you the happiest woman in the world,” Lu Zhanting said lovingly.
Lowering his head further, he slowly kissed the top of Mu Xitong’s head.
This promise was something Lu Zhanting would only make for Mu Xitong.
“Why? Why do you treat me this way…”
Right as Lu Zhanting was about to leave, Mu Xitong started to talk in her sleep.
Lu Zhanting held onto Mu Xitong’s hand.
“Xitong,” Lu Zhanting called tenderly.
“Please, I beg you, don’t treat me like this. I really don’t want to marry that old man, please. I have already moved out for all of your sakes. Don’t hurt me anymore.”
Tears streamed from her eyes as Mu Xitong spoke in her sleep.
“Darling, don’t be afraid. From now on, I will protect you. I will make sure to send whoever hurts you to hell.” Lu Zhanting’s eyes filled with murderous intent.
