Chapter 2 An Unexpected Kiss

  • Lu Zhanting shuddered and immediately pulled himself away from Mu Xitong's lips.
  • However, Mu Xitong felt nothing as she was still sleeping soundly.
  • “Delicious, a pig's trotters.” The sleeping Mu Xitong mumbled and licked her lips at the same time.
  • The corners of Lu Zhanting's mouth could not help but twitch after listening to Mu Xitong's words.
  • “You sleep like a log. If you were abducted, you wouldn’t even know it,” Lu Zhanting taunted in a soft voice. However, unbeknownst even to him, his tone was imbued with a hint of affection and amusement.
  • Ring.
  • Lu Zhanting fished out his phone to turn down the volume of the ringtone.
  • Just seconds ago, a warm look graced his handsome feature, but all of a sudden, it became ruthless, and his murderous eyes were filled with malice.
  • “Hello,” Lu Zhanting greeted coldly.
  • A cold sweat broke on the bodyguard Lu Yi’s back as he heard Lu Zhanting’s voice from the other side.
  • “Boss, we can’t locate you. Where are you now?” Lu Yi asked respectfully.
  • Although they had GPS receivers on them, Lu Zhanting did not have it with him.
  • As Lu Zhanting was listening to them, he averted his gaze to Mu Xitong who was still in a deep slumber. His eyes were filled with warmth again.
  • “I will send my location to you,” Lu Zhanting replied with the same cold tone.
  • “Yes.”
  • Lu Zhanting hung up and turned his head to look at Mu Xitong.
  • He picked up the blanket from the sofa and gently put it over her.
  • After that, with a pen and paper, he wrote down his name—Lu Zhanting.
  • The tall figure then left the rented house as if he had never appeared before.
  • When Lu Zhanting reached the ground floor, rows of limited-edition luxury cars were parked in front of him.
  • Fortunately, it was still early in the morning, and the residents were still inside their houses. Otherwise, the road would definitely become congested.
  • “Boss, are you injured?” Lu Yi asked worriedly.
  • “The injuries are fine now,” Lu Zhanting answered calmly. Without inquiring any further, Lu Yi walked deferentially toward a limited-edition Porsche Cayenne and opened one of its doors.
  • Lu Zhanting got into the car and lifted up his shirt to look at his wound. He could not help thinking about the way Mu Xitong looked, and he chuckled lightly at the thought.
  • Lu Yi, who was sitting in the passenger seat, saw what happened and almost fell out of the car.
  • Who on earth could tell him the reason why his boss, who was always expressionless, was smiling now.
  • Lu Yi just could not figure it out, and the grin on his boss’s face had already disappeared.
  • “Investigate this person,” Lu Zhanting demanded in a frosty tone.
  • “Yes, boss,” Lu Yi responded with the utmost respect.
  • Lu Yi was in complete shock when he found out the person he was going to investigate.
  • Unexpectedly, it was a woman. Did his boss finally come to his senses?
  • However, the woman looked young. After giving it a thought, Lu Yi decided to do a more thorough search on her.
  • ——
  • No one knew the identity of Xuanmei Group’s owner, the person who held the real power of the company in Dragon City.
  • Only his bodyguards and a few of his close friends had knowledge of his identity. All of the employees of the company had never come across the real owner.
  • Even the most skillful paparazzi failed to capture a photo of him.
  • According to the rumors, no one had the guts to offend him in any way. The President of the country even had to pay him some respect.
  • No one knew how Lu Zhanting accomplished what he did, and they didn’t dare to pry into his affairs.
  • The man, who Mu Xitong had rescued last night, was the mysterious CEO of Xuanmei Group.
  • It was the top of the building of Xuanmei Group—the 98th floor.
  • Inside the spacious office, the renovation was of the theme of alternating black and white stripes. Through the massive french windows, the flow of the traffic on the road below could be seen.
  • The cars looked just like ants on the ground.
  • In front of the french windows stood a tall man. One could feel his majestic air just by looking at his back.
  • Knock, knock, knock!
  • “Come in.” Lu Zhanting’s deep voice was heard. “Boss, this is the information you need,’ Lu Yi offered respectfully. “Put it on the table,” Lu Zhanting ordered coldly.
  • “Yes.” Lu Yi placed the document on the table.
  • As he was making his way to the door, a voice filled with fury was heard by the two of them.
  • “Lu Zhanting, do you still want to stay alive? It was with my painstaking effort that your old wounds were able to heal. Now, you are risking your life again. If you carry on like this, I will not help you again.”
  • The door to the office was pushed open shortly after. A good-looking man marched into the office. The man’s face had glistening, flawless skin and well-defined contours. His eyes were dark and deep, glowing charmingly. He had thick brows, a pointed nose, and perfectly shaped lips. Everything about him gave out grace and elegance.
  • “Boss,” Lu Yi addressed Lu Zhanting.
  • “You may leave,” Lu Zhanting affirmed steadily.
  • “Yes.” Lu Yi walked and stopped in front of the man who was shouting angrily just now.
  • “Mr. Du,” Lu Yi greeted the man.
  • “Hmm.” Du Shaoheng nodded at him.
  • Lu Yi exited the office and closed the door respectfully.
  • Although Lu Yi was worried about Lu Zhanting’s health, he should not be too nosy as his subordinate.
  • All of the guards were only allowed to get close to Lu Zhanting after rounds of screening.
  • They could only become one of his bodyguards with Lu Zhanting’s own approval.
  • Moreover, all of them would have to carry the last name, ‘Lu’, to represent the Lu family.
  • “Lu Zhanting, do you even care about your body?” Du Shaoheng spat.
  • Lu Zhanting gave a quick glance at Du Shaoheng before returning to his desk.
  • When he laid his eyes upon Mu Xitong’s file, the stone-cold look on his face vanished into thin air.
  • Gentleness and affection took over his face. For some reason, Lu Zhanting felt a change in himself toward this kind of matter. He felt himself becoming different.
  • Unconsciously, he extended his slender fingers to touch his lips. His face could not help breaking out into a grin when he recalled the kiss that morning.
  • Seeing Lu Zhanting’s smile, Du Shaoheng stood there, glued to the spot. His gaping mouth was so wide that several eggs could easily fit into it.
  • Why did Lu Zhanting transform into an entirely different person overnight?
  • Was it because he got hit too hard on the head? While he was still in a daze, a burst of cold air rushed over him.
  • Du Shaoheng stopped nagging and stared at Lu Zhanting who was poring over the document with his head held low.
  • Lu Zhanting’s face looked so grim that it was scary to look at. As his good friend, it was a sight that was all too familiar to him.
  • Du Shaoheng thought that he was getting angry over some incompetent employees. He advised casually, “Ting, don’t get angry over a staff.”
  • However, Lu Zhanting was not even focusing on Du Shaoheng’s words. His eyes were fixed on the paper in front of him.
  • Reading the life events of Mu Xitong written on the paper, Lu Zhanting’s heart felt a throbbing pain.
  • Du Shaoheng’s handsome face was wearing an inexplicable expression as he stared at Lu Zhanting.
  • “Hey, please make some sound,” Du Shaoheng requested with resignation.
  • Lu Zhanting lifted his head and glanced at Du Shaoheng indifferently. Du Shaoheng immediately shut his mouth.
  • Looking at Lu Zhanting, Du Shaoheng was curious about the document that he was reading. He walked toward Lu Zhanting and took a peek at the document.
  • Once he caught a glimpse of the document in his hand, he was once again startled and stared at Lu Zhanting in bewilderment.
