• Aphrodite’s eyes fluttered open slowly, her vision blurry at first as she blinked several times, struggling to focus. Gradually, she recognised the familiar surroundings of her and Asher’s bedroom. She was in their bed, staring blankly at the ceiling.
• A low moan escaped her lips as a deep ache settled in her chest—a hollow emptiness that felt like someone had carved out a piece of her soul. The pain was so profound that she wanted to scream, to let out the agony that threatened to consume her, but her body was too weak to move. Even screaming seemed impossible.
