Chapter 18 A Bigger Purpose

• "Why does this have to be so hard?" She said to herself, "Ugh," and ran her fingers through her messy hair.
• When she saw him—Darius, standing at the end of the corridor with his back to her—her thoughts were stopped. Seeing him made her heart race. She wanted to talk to him and deal with the barrier he put between them, but the words seemed thick, like stones in her throat.
• When he turned, their eyes met, and her breath caught. For a minute, she was sure she saw something in his eyes—a flash of warmth, a break in the ice that made him so locked off. But it was gone as swiftly as it had come, and the normal guarded look took its place.
