Chapter 8 Pingchuan City TV Station

  • Ye Jinqiu was one of the first to leave the orphanage. Not long after she left, Ning Feng's second sister, Ren Yue, entered university, then went on to pursue a master's degree, a PhD, and even studied abroad as an exchange student. When she returned, she became the youngest professor at Zhonghai University.
  • The third sister, Lu Ning, was always away, only returning to the country every few months. Ye Jinqiu had no idea what she was doing.
  • On the other hand, Ning Feng's fourth sister, Tang Xiaowan, had become a popular celebrity in Jiuzhou Country. The days at the orphanage were probably the memories she least wanted to recall.
  • Tang Xiaowan and the other sisters had cut off contact long ago.
  • The fifth sister, An Ran, still worked as a journalist at Pingchuan City TV Station.
  • As for the sixth sister, Su Huansha, her whereabouts were unknown. Ye Jinqiu had seen Su Huansha a few times in Pingchuan City, but only from a distance. She couldn't even confirm if it was really Su Huansha.
  • As for the seventh sister, Luo Zijin, she was still pursuing her studies, coincidentally at Zhonghai University. With Ren Yue taking care of her, Ye Jinqiu wasn't too worried.
  • After seeing Ye Jinqiu off, Ning Feng stood on the side of the road, looking at the USB drive in his hand, feeling a heavy burden on his heart.
  • Ten years ago, he was chased by enemies and had to leave Pingchuan City.
  • During these ten years, he had been restraining the hatred in his heart.
  • In these ten years, he didn't even know who the enemy was that had set fire to the Ning family's decades-old foundation.
  • After much contemplation, Ning Feng took out an adapter and inserted the USB drive into his phone.
  • With three layers of password encryption, the passwords had been sent to Ning Feng's email long ago.
  • He entered the passwords one by one, and seventeen files neatly appeared on the screen of his phone.
  • Starting from twenty years ago, the financial data of the Ning Group before its bankruptcy, competitors, investigation files on the Ning family's fire, witness testimonies, transcripts...
  • Everything was in this USB drive.
  • Ning Feng spent a full two hours reading through all the files.
  • In these files, one name was mentioned repeatedly...
  • Su Kaishan, the executive vice president of the Ning Group.
  • After the Ning family went bankrupt, Su Kaishan turned around and joined the Conway Group, which acquired the Ning Group. In less than half a year, he transformed into the chairman of the Conway Group.
  • The speed of his promotion was astonishing.
  • What was even more suspicious was that after the fire at the Ning family's house, Su Kaishan bought the ancestral home of the Ning family and built a new office building on it. He even established the headquarters of the Conway Group at the old site of the Ning family's ancestral home.
  • Also, for various reasons, Su Kaishan was listed as the primary investigator of the Ning family's massacre fifteen years ago.
  • But in the end, due to lack of evidence, the investigation ended after three years without convicting Su Kaishan.
  • Instead, over the years, Su Kaishan remained low-key in Pingchuan City, but behind the scenes, he manipulated several companies in Pingchuan City, using short-selling tactics and aggressively investing. This included the Song Group!
  • Ning Feng had long realized that Song Hui could establish a foothold in Pingchuan City because someone was supporting him.
  • Now it seemed highly likely that this person was Su Kaishan.
  • Putting away his phone, Ning Feng lit a cigarette. Since the investigation team fifteen years ago couldn't convict Su Kaishan in the Ning family massacre case, it meant that there was insufficient evidence.
  • If he wanted to uncover the truth of what happened fifteen years ago, he had to find out what exactly happened in Pingchuan City fifteen years ago!
  • Now, in the entire Pingchuan City, there was probably only one place where he could find news about the Ning Group fifteen years ago...
  • Ning Feng hailed a taxi on the side of the road and headed straight for Pingchuan City TV Station.
  • ...
  • Outside the office building of Pingchuan City TV Station.
  • The taxi stopped, and Ning Feng got out of the car.
  • What he wanted to check was the newspapers from fifteen years ago in Pingchuan City.
  • Originally, Pingchuan Daily and Pingchuan City TV Station had separate offices. Five years ago, the two merged and now both belonged to Pingchuan City TV Station.
  • "What a load of crap! Does being the deputy station head make him so great?"
  • "He can publish whatever he wants, and if he doesn't want to, he won't. What can you do about it? If you have the ability, get me fired!"
  • Ning Feng lowered his head and hadn't even entered the office building yet when a woman in a plain coat with short hair walked out of the building and angrily threw her press pass to the ground.
  • Ning Feng saw this woman and smiled. He didn't expect to run into his fifth sister, An Ran, here.
  • "An Ran, who made you so angry?" Ning Feng looked at An Ran, and her voice sounded familiar. When she turned around and saw that it was Ning Feng, the anger on her face dissipated slightly.
  • "Who else could it be? That bald-headed old man at the TV station, Jia Siping!"
  • An Ran was about to explode. She had been investigating the forced demolition by the Song Group for half a year and finally recorded evidence of the demolition today. She eagerly brought it back to the TV station, only to be told by Deputy Station Head Jia Siping that the footage couldn't be aired!
  • An Ran was indignant, but Jia Siping told her that the World Trade Center project had reached a critical moment and no one could stop it from proceeding. The Nan City Orphanage had to be demolished, whether it was done legally or illegally. The higher-ups had already given instructions to put the Song Group's matter on hold for now and deal with it later!
  • Ning Feng almost burst out laughing. The Song Group had deep roots, even able to bribe the TV station.
  • "Oh, isn't this our TV station's star reporter An Ran? I heard you were kicked out by Deputy Station Head Jia!" Outside the TV station, a woman wearing heavy makeup and black stockings picked up the press pass from the ground and looked at An Ran with disdain.
  • "You're talking nonsense. Who got kicked out by that baldy Jia? I was the one who slammed the door and left first!"
  • An Ran snatched back her press pass. In the TV station, the reporters were all in competition with each other. Whoever could find the most eye-catching news would have the highest performance. But Pingchuan City was only so big, and there were only so many big news stories to uncover. As the star reporter of Pingchuan TV Station, An Ran naturally had already made many people unhappy.
  • Today, she had a fight with Deputy Station Head Jia Siping, and it was even more of an opportunity for others to laugh at her.
  • This woman was a reporter on An Ran's team named Tan Yaya. She usually flirted with the leaders in the station and had a good relationship with them. But she had always had a grudge against An Ran and finally found an opportunity today.
  • "Alright, alright, An Ran, do you really think your work ability is so strong? You're just a pretty face, a decorative pillow. What use do you have?"
  • "Song Group is not something you can touch. It's the pillar of our city's real estate industry, with assets worth ten billion. They could buy our TV station."
  • "You think you can expose the Song Group with your abilities? Hah!"
  • Tan Yaya sneered.
  • An Ran clenched her fists. It wasn't just her who knew that the Song Group was a menace in Pingchuan City. But everyone feared the Song Group like a fierce tiger!
  • She had thought it was just a lack of evidence.
  • For the past six months, she had been visiting and contacting witnesses, recording testimonies, all to bring down the Song Group!
  • But today, she realized she was wrong. The reason why the Song Group stood strong was because of people like Tan Yaya and Jia Siping!
  • They didn't deserve to be journalists, they didn't deserve to be in this industry!
  • Just as An Ran and Tan Yaya were at odds with each other.
  • A secretary from the office building came out and looked down at An Ran from above. "An Ran, Deputy Station Head Jia asked me to inform you that you need to settle your salary with the finance department tomorrow. You have been fired."
